Bournemouth defender Adam Smith could be out for up to three months after picking up a knee injury against Newcastle earlier this month.
The full-back was stretchered off after receiving eight minutes of treatment during the Cherries’ 2-1 defeat at St James’ Park.
Manager Eddie Howe was initially very concerned, admitting Smith’s injury looked serious.
But after undergoing extensive medical assessment the damage to Smith’s knee did not appear as serious as first feared.
The club announced Smith, 27, underwent a procedure to repair a cartilage tear in his right knee on Saturday.
And despite Smith’s injury and the Newcastle defeat it’s been a very good season for Bournemouth so far, who lie sixth in the Premier League table.
Their next game sees them host fifth-placed Arsenal on Sunday.
