Henderson played all 46 league games for Sheffield United last season as they won promotion back to the Premier League.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the loan move will be of big benefit to the promising shot-stopper and is pleased he has committed his long-term future to the Old Trafford giants.

“Dean had a fantastic season at Sheffield United and has a big future ahead of him so I am delighted that he has signed this contract,” said Solskjaer.

“He is another top-level talent that has come through the academy to continue the proud tradition of producing players capable of playing in the first team.

“We have great faith in Dean’s ability, he has huge potential and his spirit and passion will stand him in good stead this year.

“We wish Dean the best of luck with his loan move. The opportunity to play a full season of Premier League football is perfect for his development.”

Meanwhile, the Blades have also signed midfielder Ben Osborn, 24, on a three-year deal from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee.

Osborn came through Forest’s youth set-up and made 230 appearances for the Championship club since making his debut in 2014.

On signing Osborn, Blades manager Chris Wilder said: “He’s been a fantastic player for Forest in the Championship and I know for certain that two or three clubs in January were sniffing around to take him.”

Sheffield United made it back to the top flight after finishing as Championship runners up to Norwich last term.

Since sealing promotion, they have also brought in forwards Lys Mousset and Callum Robinson, midfielders Ravel Morrison and Luke Freeman, and re-signed defender Phil Jagielka.
