Arsenal transfer news: Five wingers Gunners could sign in January after Unai Emery’s demand

8 Jan

Unai Emery has been dealt several injury blows in his first season in charge of Arsenal, particularly in defence.

Key players have been sidelined, including the likes of Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil and Rob Holding, and this has left the Spaniard with a paper thin squad.

Emery is looking to add a winger to his ranks

Inevitably, the Gunners chief has now got his eyes on some new Janaury recruits to resolve the issue.

Along with some defensive cover, numerous reports are stating Emery is on the hunt for a new winger.

A move for a wide-man make sense as Henrikh Mkhitaryan is sidelined until February and the only wingers available are Alex Iwobi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

But who could head to the Emirates next? Here are talkSPORT’s five most likely deals.

Denis Suarez (Barcelona)

The most likely move is for Barcelona’s Spanish midfielder Denis Suarez – a player who talkSPORT have reported is “close” to signing for the club.

The 24-year-old has struggled for game time at the Nou Camp this season, making only six appearances, and a switch to north London has been rumoured for some time.

Emery has worked with Suarez at Sevilla before and although the Spaniard is naturally a central midfielder, he was deployed by on the flanks during his time with the current Arsenal boss in 2014/15.

Having fallen out of favour with Barca boss Ernesto Valverde, north London could be the perfect destination for Suarez to reignite his career as he approaches his peak years.

Suarez, who has just one international cap, has made just 46 La Liga appearances in three years with the club.

Denis Suarez is seeking an exit from Barcelona

Cengiz Under (Roma)

Another target for Emery is for Roma right-winger Cengiz Under

The Turkey international is one of the most in-demand players in European football right now, and Tottenham reportedly had an offer for him rejected by Roma in December.

Under has been on fine form for the Italian outfit this term, notching up three league goals and seven assists so far this term.

He could be the ideal starter on the right for Arsenal, providing healthy competition for Alex Iwobi, but is also versatile and can play on the left flank too should Emery wish to start Aubameyang as a striker.

Tuttomercatoweb claim Arsenal submitted an offer worth around £29million (€32m) for Under in December but it is believed Roma want to keep their winger in the ranks and will only listen to offers next summer.

Cengiz Under has scored three Serie A goals for Roma this season

Nicolas Pepe (Lille)

Another reported target for the Gunners is Lille winger Nicolas Pepe.

The 23-year-old has 12 goals and five assists in his opening 19 Ligue 1 games this season, catching the eye of several top clubs across Europe, including Arsenal’s bitter rivals Tottenham.

The French-Ivorian’s rise in French football has been an impressive one – starting his career in the lower leagues, his performances eventually earned him a transfer to Angers in 2013.

Pepe signed a five-year deal with Lille in the summer of 2017 for a reported £10million fee and he has gone from strength-to-strength since then, quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting players in France’s top flight.

Nicolas Pepe is wanted by Arsenal boss Unai Emery

Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona)

Previously linked with Arsenal, it’s no surprise they would maintain an interest in the French superstar, despite his disciplinary issues.

A stunning goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League further endeared his to the Emirates faithful but his availability is complex.

While there are problems with Dembele at the Camp Nou he is beginning to make a first-team role his own and increase his goal involvement, netting seven times and creating three more for team-mates.

A loan move looked Arsenal’s best chance at landing him but while he remains on the wish list a transfer seems unlikely.

Dembele scored a sensational goal against Tottenham

Recall Reiss Nelson

Another option for Emery is to recall youngster Reiss Nelson from his season-long loan with Hoffenheim.

The teenager has been a revelation for the Bundesliga side this term – netting six goals in 13 appearances for the German outfit.

Instead of forking out millions on other young talents, Emery could put his faith in one of his own and give him a run of games.

Nelson recently said he was “very happy” in Germany, but there is no doubting the youngster would relish the opportunity to shine for his boyhood club.

In October, Arsenal fans begged the club to recall their starlet after he dazzled for England Under-21’s against Andorra.

But only time will tell what the future holds for Nelson, who like Jadon Sancho at Dortmund, is finding his career is blossoming in a foreign league.

Arsenal make £29million bid for Roma winger Cengiz Under after Tottenham Hotspur have offer reportedly turned down

14 Dec

Arsenal have made a formal offer for Cengiz Under, the Roma winger, according to reports.

Under, the Turkey international, is one of the most in-demand players in European football right now, and Tottenham are already claimed to have had an offer for him rejected by Roma.

Under has impressed since joining Roma last summer

Spurs, Arsenal’s local rivals, are believed to be preparing another bid for Under, but the Gunners have now made their first move for the 21-year-old wonderkid.

Tuttomercatoweb claim Arsenal have submitted an offer worth around £29million (€32m) for Under, who has scored five goals and created a further five in 19 matches this season.

Arsenal’s opening bid is reported to have been instantly rejected by Roma, who value Under closer to the £45million (€50m) mark.

Furthermore, Roma do not wish to sell Under in January, and they have no need to as progression to the Champions League last 16 has improved their financial situation.

Under sealing a big-money move away from Roma next summer is believed to be much more likely.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Spurs prepare £46million offer for Cengiz Under after Roma reject £31m bid

5 Dec

Tottenham are ready to make a £46million offer for Roma star Cengiz Under having seen an opening bid rejected.

Under has been tracked by Spurs for a number of months, with Arsenal and Chelsea claimed to have also scouted the 21-year-old winger.

Under has impressed since joining Roma last summer

The Turkey international’s reputation has grown rapidly since leaving Istanbul Basaksehir in his homeland last summer to join Roma, with 12 goals scored and a further seven created in 49 appearances for the Giallorossi.

It is not a surprise the youngster’s form has earned admiring glances from the Premier League, and Spurs have moved quickly to jump to the front of the queue for Under.

According to Corriere dello Sport, per Football Italia, Tottenham are preparing a second offer for Under having seen their opening bid rejected by Roma.

The Lilywhites are upping their bid to around £46million (€52m) after Roma considered their first offer of £31million (€35m) unacceptable.

Former club Istanbul Basaksehir are believed to have a 20 per cent sell-on clause, meaning they will profit nicely from a potential Under transfer.

Arsenal and Chelsea send scouts to watch Roma star Cengiz Under

3 Dec

The 21-year-old winger scored in Roma’s 2-2 draw with Inter Milan on Sunday.

Cengiz Under has scored four goals for Roma this season

Under, who is valued at £45million, has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months.

Arsenal are short on out-and-out wingers, while Chelsea want long-term replacements for Pedro and Willian.

Italian publication Calciomercato reports the two Premier League clubs have cast their eye over Under.

The Turkey international has become a regular starter for Roma after being in and out of Eusebio Di Francesco’s side last season.

Roma could see a healthy return for Under, who cost the club just £11million last year, if Arsenal or Chelsea meet their valuation.

The Italian club are seventh in Serie A after winning just one of their last six league games.

Chelsea transfer news: Blues could bid £31million plus Andreas Christensen for Roma ace Cengiz Under

23 Nov

Chelsea are considering a transfer bid for Roma star Cengiz Under which would involve money AND Andreas Christensen.

The 21-year-old forward has been a hit in Italy ever since he moved to Serie A  and the Blues are tempted to offer £31million plus their young defender for his services.

Under scored eight goals in all competitions during his debut season and his form caught the eye of Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Roma, however, have always held firm when clubs have enquired about the Turkey international and claimed he is not for sale.

But, according to Calciomercato, Chelsea are ready to test Roma’s resolve by making a hefty offer for Under in January.

The Blues are putting together a package that would include a cash payment of £31million plus defender Christensen.

Christensen is said to be unhappy over a lack of playing time this season and he is prepared to leave in January.

Roma are already on the hunt for a new centre-back and have held preliminary talks with Daniele Rugani of Juventus.

Arsenal transfer news: Gunners ahead of Barcelona and Bayern Munich in battle for Roma ace Cengiz Under

25 Oct

Arsenal are the favourites to sign Roma ace Cengiz Under ahead of Barcelona and Bayern Munich next summer.

The 21-year-old forward has impressed in the Italian capital since moving there in July 2017 from İstanbul Başakşehir for just over £10million.

Cengiz Under is wanted by several top clubs.

The Turkey international has caught the eye of both Barcelona and Bayern Munich since his time with Roma, but they are not the favourites to sign him.

Instead, according to widespread reports in Under’s native Turkey, Arsenal are leading the race for him.

Under has impressed since breaking into the first-team 12 months ago.

The Gunners are said to have the most concrete interest in the player and he is eager to move to England.

Arsenal are understood to be in the market for a new wide forward and they have also been linked with Barcelona’s Malcom.

Any move for the Brazilian would cost around £45million and Under is believed to be in the same price range.

Roma, however, have told Arsenal that any deal for the 21-year-old will not go through until the summer.

Arsenal transfer news: Gunners ‘in pole position’ to sign Tottenham-linked Roma winger Cengiz Under

19 Oct

Arsenal are leading the race to sign Roma winger Cengiz Under, according to reports.

Under, the Turkey international, has quickly established himself as one of Europe’s most promising talents since moving to the Stadio Olimpico last summer.

Under’s rise to stardom has been rapid

A right-sided forward, Under scored eight goals and created a further two last season, and he’s already chipped in with six goal actions in just eight matches this term.

Under’s performances have seen him tipped as a future superstar, with one bookmaker even offering the same odds on Under (50-1) to win the Ballon d’Or before 2023 as Harry Kane and Philippe Coutinho.

Roma are aware of the huge interest in Under, and it is believed a bid of around £53million (€60m) could be enough to prise the Turkey international away from the Stadio Olimpico with Roma willing to sell at the right price.

And Arsenal are leading the race for Under, according to ForzaRoma.

The report states the Gunners are ‘in pole position’ for the Giallorossi’s excellent performer, with Bayern Munich said to also be looking at the 21-year-old.

Earlier this week, talkSPORT told you that Tottenham are another club keen on Under, following his fine showings in Italy.

Under has played a role in 16 goals since joining Roma last summer

Under started his career in his homeland with Altinordu before moving to Basaksehir in 2016.

In his lone Super Lig season, Under scored seven goals in 32 appearances, and earned his first senior Turkey call-up. He’s since represented his country on a further 14 occasions.

Transfer news: Arsenal and Tottenham could sign Roma sensation Cengiz Under for £44million

16 Oct

Cengiz Under could join Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur for £44million, according to reports.

The young Turkish star is in high demand after impressing for the Italian giants this season and, alongside Arsenal and Spurs, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are reportedly keeping close tabs on his development too.

Roma sensation Cengiz Under.

After initially struggling to break into the Roma first-team following a £11million move from Turkish club Basaksehir, Under has excelled this term making eight appearances and scoring twice.

Roma have insisted that the 21-year-old is not for sale but this has done little to squash the speculation surrounding his future at the Stadio Olimpico.

And now, according to II Tempo, Arsenal and Spurs have received news that Under could be available for around £44million .

The Gunners are expected to submit a second offer ahead of the January window after Roma snubbed their opening £30million move.

Roma are bracing themselves for a huge fight to keep Under as many other top European clubs join the race to try and snap him up during the mid-season window.
