The 22-year-old starred for the Dutch club last season to help them win the Eredivisie and also reach the Champions League semi-finals.

He scored 12 goals in all competitions, including important strikes against Real Madrid and Juventus on the European stage.

Journalist Jorge Nicola claims Neres turned down the chance to move to the Premier League when Man United came calling to instead remain with Ajax.

He is also thought to have accepted a new contract offer from the Dutch club which will see him become their second highest-paid player behind Daley Blind.

Marc Overmars, Ajax’s director of football, reportedly played an instrumental role in getting Neres to stay.

Man United make £46million bid for Ajax sensation David Neres as Red Devils look to continue transfer spending spree

4 Aug

Manchester United have made a £46million bid for David Neres, according to reports.

The 22-year-old was part of the Ajax side who made it to the Champions League semi-finals last season and won plenty of admirers along the way.

He scored 12 goals in all competitions, including important strikes against Real Madrid and Juventus in Europe.

The Eredivisie champions have been gutted this summer with Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong both leaving, while there has been speculation over Donny van de Beek possibly moving to Real Madrid.

And Neres could be the latest Ajax ace to leave, with Yahoo Sports claiming the Red Devils have launched a £46m bid for the forward.

This offer falls well short of Ajax’s valuation, however.

The report claims they are trying to hold out for a fee of around £64m for Neres, partly because his old club, Sao Paulo, will get 23 per cent of the transfer fee.

Manchester United are unlikely to want to pay that much for the Brazil international, especially having already spent considerable sums this transfer window.

Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were signed earlier this summer for £15m and £50m respectively, while Harry Maguire is also on the verge of completing an £80m transfer from Leicester.

Ajax are still hopeful of getting Neres to stay, however, and have offered him a one-year contract extension to make him one of the best paid players at the club.

Transfer news: Ajax wonderkids set for Premier League moves with Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United among favourites to sign them

17 Apr

Ajax are through to the Champions League semi-final after despatching Juventus in style.

The Dutch giants dumped Cristiano Ronaldo and co out of the competition thanks to a 3-2 aggregate scoreline, which had neutrals across Europe celebrating.

Ajax players celebrate their win over Juventus

But while it represents a magnificent for both Ajax and European football, proving the game’s modern elite can be beaten when it matter, it feels like it could be this side’s last hurrah.

The collection of wonderkids and experienced aces may be broken up in just two months times as clubs across Europe get ready to raid Amsterdam.

Frenkie de Jong, the classy midfielder, has already sealed his transfer, having penned a move to Barcelona on July 1, which is no surprise given his astonishing ability which saw him, on occasion, embarrass Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric in the Round of 16 victory over Real Madrid.

But where will there other heroes be going when the transfer window opens? Oddschecker.com have provided the latest odds.

Matthijs de Ligt

The 19-year-old captain has already been hailed by Rio Ferdinand as ‘the best young defender on the planet’ and it seem likely it will cost mega-money to sign him.

Barcelona are favourite to land him come the transfer window, with the Catalan club 8/15 to sign the defender.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich (6/1) are second favourites to sign the starlet, followed by Juventus (12/1), Liverpool (12/1), Real Madrid (16/1) and Manchester United (20/1).

De Ligt wheels away in celebration after sealing a monumental win for Ajax

However, with punters, its Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side that is being backed to land De Ligt with 72% of all bets placed on United.

David Neres

The Brazilian helped put Juve to the sword over both legs and a Premier League is one very much on the radar.

Bookies believe he is off to Liverpool or Bayern in the summer – both priced at 6/1 favourites.

Everton are a shock 8/1 inclusion on the list, ahead of Chelsea (9/1), Arsenal (10/1), Tottenham (12/1) and West Ham (16/1).

Hakim Ziyech

Okay, he’s not a wonderkid at 26, but some wondered why the Moroccan ace was still at Ajax when the transfer window closed, now it’s even more of a mystery.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are clear favourites to sign the Moroccan playmaker, priced at just 13/8 to secure his signature.

Elsewhere, Roma are second favourites at 6/1, followed by Juventus (8/1), Borussia Dortmund (10/1), PSG (12/1) and Liverpool (14/1).

Donny van de Beek

De Jong may have sealed a switch to Barcelona but van de Beek could be in with a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal (5/1) are second favourites behind PSG (4/1).

Tottenham come next in the market at 6/1, followed by Chelsea (10/1), Manchester United (12/1) and Barcelona (16/1).

Arsenal and Manchester United locked in transfer battle for £45m Ajax wonderkid David Neres – reports

15 Apr

Arsenal and Manchester United will do battle this summer for the signing of David Neres, according to reports.

The Ajax starlet has enjoyed a fantastic campaign, scoring in the Champions League against Real Madrid and Juventus.

Neres celebrates scoring against Juventus in the Champions League

Just last month, he became a full Brazil international and his performances are earning him plenty of admirers.

According to The Sun, the 22-year-old is valued at £45million by the Dutch giants, with Arsenal and United prepared to go head-to-head for his signature.

With eight goals and 11 assists in the Eredivisie this season already, it is clear to see why the forward is so highly-rated.

Everton are also reportedly keeping tabs on his situation, ahead of a potential summer move.

Neres arrived in Amsterdam from Sao Paulo in January 2017 for just £10m – going on to feature in the Europa League final against the Red Devils.

His first full campaign in 2017/18 saw him notch 14 goals and 13 assists in 32 league games.

Arsenal transfer news: Gunners ‘in talks’ to sign Ajax star David Neres but face competition from Manchester United and Liverpool

13 Apr

Arsenal are reportedly interested in a £35million move for Ajax’s David Neres.

Neres has caught the eye with the Dutch club this season with 12 goals and 15 assists.

David Neres has been a star for Ajax this season

His brilliant goal got Ajax back level in their Champions League quarter-final first leg with Juventus on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old also scored in their 4-1 thrashing of Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the last-16 of the competition.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal have already begun negotiations with Ajax over a potential deal.

Neres is wanted by some of the top clubs in Europe

The Gunners are not the only Premier League club who are thought to be interested in the Brazilian winger.

Manchester United are keen but are yet to hold talks with the club while Everton have held initial discussion with the Dutch club wanting around £35million.

Chelsea are also keeping tabs on him but their impending transfer ban could scupper any bid and Liverpool have also been heavily linked to the winger.

Borussia Dortmund could also renew their interest for Neres as they saw a bid for the Ajax star rejected in January.

His contract does not run out until 2022 but he is expected to leave Holland this summer.

How Liverpool could line up next season without Sadio Mane, but with Ruben Neves, Callum Hudson-Odoi and David Neres

11 Apr

Liverpool fans across the globe are waiting with bated breath for the climax of what has been an incredible season.

The chance to complete a European and league double does not come along very often, but the Reds may well be on the brink of something truly spectacular.

Jurgen Klopp is on the cusp of glory at Liverpool

After despatching Porto 2-0 on Tuesday night in the Champions League, the attention will turn Chelsea on Sunday in the Premier League.

Although they have played a game more, Liverpool are top of the table and are two points clear of closest competitors Manchester City.

With all the pressure and expectation swirling around Anfield, Jurgen Klopp could be forgiven for letting the pressure to get to him.

However, the German remains as charismatic and likeable as ever.

Liverpool beat Porto 2-0 on Tuesday night

In fact, if the gossip mill is to be believed, the former Borussia Dortmund head coach may well be looking to next season already by lining up a series of signings.

The odds on Callum Hudson-Odoi swapping the Kings Road for Kirkby have plummeted over the weekend and rumours of a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers playmaker Ruben Neves have continued to gather pace.

And Real Madrid’s tormentor-in-chief David Neres has also been linked with a move to Merseyside after playing a crucial role in Ajax’s run to the Champions League quarter-finals.

But there is also talk of at least one high-profile exit from the club which Klopp may have to contend with.

Hudson-Odoi has been linked with a move to Liverpool

A deal was reportedly in place to take Sadio Mane to Real Madrid at the end of last season.

But Zinedine Zidane’s shock departure after the Champions League Final meant the deal never took place and the Senegal star has been irrepressible this season.

With the Frenchman back in charge at the Bernabeu, the 26-year-old could well be involved in a transfer saga.

So how would Liverpool cope with his departure. talkSPORT.com looks at how Liverpool *could* line up next season.

Ruben Neves is a reported target for the Reds

RELEASING HENDO (4-3-3)

On Tuesday night, Jurgen Klopp apologised for playing Jordan Henderson out of position for a year-and-a-half while Liverpool captain.

The midfielder has operated in a deep role for club and country, almost like a No.6 just sitting In front of the back four. However, it was his lung-bursting runs and attacking play which earned him a £20million move from Sunderland in 2011.

With Fabinho and Neves able to interchange between attacking and defensive transitions for the Reds, the England international can bomb on and join the attack, with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fantastic alternatives from the bench.

Fabinho’s versatility means he can drop into the ‘false full-back role’ to cover Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold when they maraud forward. By dropping alongside the centre-halves when Liverpool are in possession, the Brazil international would allow the wingers to cut inside and create space on the overlap for the full-backs on the outside.

Liverpool’s triumvirate of midfielders are crucial to this formation working

WING WIZARDS (4-2-3-1)

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s remarkable rise at Chelsea is eerily similar to that of David Neres of Ajax in that both men have faced adversity head on, despite their tender years.

Maurizio Sarri’s reluctance to use the 18-year-old England international had led to rumours of a move away, while Neres was not guaranteed a starting place in Amsterdam until February of this year – remarkable considering he scored 14 goals and registered 13 assists last season.

Neres made his international debut for Brazil last month

Both play with a direct and fearless style which make them nightmares for defenders to stop and Liverpool’s relentless pressing and counter-attacking style would be perfect.

With Mohamed Salah using his pace in behind to stretch teams, the mercurial Roberto Firmino would be able to exploit the spaces in between defence and midfield.

But Neres’ equaliser keeps the tie alive for Ajax, who will go to Turin with confidence after beating holders Real Madrid 4-1 at the Bernabeu in the last round.

Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag said: ”1-1 is not the result you hope for, but it is a result.

“Last time we lost 2-1 to Madrid at home, so we are still in it. We had some very good opportunities.”

Neres would provide solid cover and competition for Liverpool stars Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, as he can play in multiple attacking positions.

Despite signing Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke last summer, Anfield chief Jurgen Klopp has been reluctant to rest his front three throughout a campaign in which they continue to challenge for both domestic and European honours.

Dortmund are on the lookout for a replacement for Chelsea-bound winger Christian Pulisic.

And PSG could appeal to Neres, who would be playing alongside Brazil team-mates Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Neymar.

Neres’ form saw him receive a first call-up to the Brazil national team last month and he made his debut as a substitute against the Czech Republic.
