Manchester United transfer news: Demetri Mitchell rejoins Hearts on loan

Hearts have re-signed Manchester United full-back Demetri Mitchell on loan.

The 21-year-old will spend the rest of the season with the Scottish Premiership club, who have now signed 15 new players this summer.

Mitchell made nine appearances for the Tynecastle side last season after joining on loan in January before injury kept him out for two months. He returned to play twice more before the end of the campaign.

Mitchell, who also extended his United contract until 2020, is expected to go straight into the Hearts squad for their league game against St Mirren on Saturday.

Craig Levein wants to re-sign Demetri Mitchell on loan from Manchester United this summer, but he must wait until the Red Devils return from their summer tour of the United States.

Mitchell, the left-back, spent the second half of last season with Hearts, catching the eye in his six-month stay north of the border.

The 21-year-old returned to United for pre-season, and he’s been included in Jose Mourinho’s squad that has travelled to America for friendlies against Club America, San Jose Earthquakes, Milan, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

However, Levein, Hearts’ manager, is still interested in bringing the United academy graduate back to Tynecastle for the 2018/19 campaign.

Quoted by the Daily Record, Levein said: “Demetri did exceptionally well when he was with us in the second half of last season so it is something I am still looking at.

“There are no decisions to be made just now, he is away with Manchester United to America. We will see.”

Mitchell made his debut for Jambos on January 21, playing from the start in a 1-0 defeat of Hibs in the Edinburgh derby and earning the man of the match award.

He went on to make 12 appearances in total for the Tynecastle club, scoring the first senior goal of his career in a Scottish Cup fifth round victory over St Johnstone.
