What you need to know about Aston Villa’s 12 new signings, including Marvelous Nakamba and Wesley Moraes

Aston Villa have been very busy in the transfer market this summer as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

The club’s board have made TWELVE signings in the current window – one of their latest the acquisitions being goalkeeper Tom Heaton from Burnley.

They’ve also completed a deal for Marvelous Nakamba, who impressed the Villans enough while on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Zimbabwe.

Given manager Dean Smith has signed an entire starting XIs worth of players this summer – and one extra. It’s understandable if fans may not be fully aware of their new signings.

Below you can see a comprehensive list of Aston Villa’s summer signings and some information about them all.

Tom Heaton

The keeper joins from Burnley for a fee believed to be in the region of £8million.

Heaton, 33, was in the final year of his contract at Turf Moor but has now gone to Villa Park. He started his playing career at Manchester United.

Marvelous Nakamba

The central midfielder has joined from Belgian side Club Brugge for a fee of around £11m.

Nakamba, 25, represented Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations in the summer but they finished bottom of their group.

Wesley Moraes

The striker has been Villa’s largest investment in this window so far, having forked out £22m for his services.

Like Nakamba, Brazilian Wesley signed from Club Brugge where he scored 14 goals in 46 appearances last term.

Tyrone Mings

Villa secured the permanent signing of defender Mings from Bournemouth this summer for just over £20m.

His signature was a must as the centre-back played a pivotal role in helping Villa’s promotion charge during the second half of 2018/19.

Douglas Luiz

The 21-year-old arrives with some pedigree having been bought from Manchester City for around £15m.

He’s also made appearances for Brazil at Under-20 and Under-23 level.

However, midfielder Luiz is still relatively unproven at senior level but has played in LaLiga for Girona.

Matt Targett

The left-back looked like he was going to be a future star at Southampton when he broke into the first-team in September 2014.

Things didn’t work out for Targett at St Mary’s so Villa have taken a chance on him, paying Saints £14million for him.

Ezri Konsa

He may struggle for first-team football next season but signing Konsa may be a smart investment for the future.

The centre-back, 21, performed well for Brentford last season in the Championship and Villa have given him a route into the top flight.

This is a potentially very exciting transfer for Villa with Trezeguet bolstering their attacking options.

The Egyptian plays his international football alongside Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and started all four of the Pharaohs’ matches at AFCON 2019.

Anwar El Ghazi

Another player who was on loan at Villa last season, El Ghazi made his transfer from Lille permanent earlier this summer for £8m.

The winger helped Villa achieve promotion and scored the first goal of their play-off final victory over Derby County at Wembley.

Bjorn Engels

Villa certainly have a lot of competition for presumably two centre-back slots and another defender they’ve brought in is Belgian Engels.

Engels was signed for £7.2million from French club Reims.

They must think highly of Jota if they were willing to make an offer to local rivals Birmingham for his services.

The right-winger scored three goals and supplied nine assists in 40 Championship appearances last term but should have more of an impact with better players around him.

Kortney Hause

Villa have also bought a player from rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers in the form of defender Hause for £3m.

The 24-year-old usually plays as a centre-back but can play out on the left which could help him make more appearances in the first-team.

Aston Villa transfer news: TENTH summer deal complete as Douglas Luiz signs from Manchester City

25 Jul

Aston Villa have made their tenth signing this summer as Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz has joined from Manchester City.

The Villans, who won promotion back to the Premier League last season, have landed Luiz for an undisclosed fee.

Luiz never made a competitive appearance for Manchester City

Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Douglas Luiz subject to a work permit,” the club said on their official website.

Luiz, 21, joined City from hometown club Vasco da Gama in 2017, but he never featured for Pep Guardiola’s side and spent the last two seasons on loan at Spanish side Girona.

Villa boss Dean Smith added: “Douglas is an extremely talented young player with an outstanding pedigree, who I am sure will fit nicely into our style and system of play.”

Luiz played a key role as Brazil Under-21s won the Toulon Tournament last month and was named player of the tournament.

Villa have signed ten new players since winning the Championship play-off final in May, taking their summer spending to more than £100million.
