Antoine Griezmann’s Arsenal squad on Football Manager 2019 is unreal – meet the wonderkids starring for the Gunners in 2023

15 Aug

Antoine Griezmann may well have completed his move to FC Barcelona this summer, but the World Cup winner clearly has a soft spot for Arsenal.

The 28-year-old posted a screenshot of his Football Manager game onto Twitter and revealed he is currently undertaking a save as the Gunners’ gaffer.

Antoine Griezmann has created an incredible Arsenal team on Football Manager

Time had elapsed in the game until 2023 and it is fair to say the former Atletico Madrid striker has assembled a world class squad.

Packed with a host of stars, there is not a single current squad member in the team, much to the chagrin of Alexandre Lacazette.

Replying to his France international colleague in the replies, Griezmann revealed that after winning the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup in 2021, he sold the striker to Huddersfield for £23.5million!

Unai Emery may have splashed the cash on the likes of Kieran Tierney and Nicolas Pepe this summer, but the Spaniard will be envious of the side Griezmann has built at the Emirates.

Bristling with young talent, the France international has built a very good Gunners team

But just who are the players Griezmann has picked for his Arsenal side? Given how much time has elapsed, there are a few ‘newgen’ players in the squad such as the goalkeeper – Hasan.

Below, talkSPORT.com has provided mini profiles on each real member of the team. ALl of the stats are from the game and are not the latest

Check out the sensational side Griezmann has created!

How Diego Maradona would cope as Manchester United manager in 2019/20 – according to Football Manager

11 Jun

Perhaps no game encapsulates the genius and madness of Diego Maradona so perfectly as the 1986 World Cup quarter-final against England.

Maradona showed the world he possessed both traits, which are intrinsically linked according to Aristotle, in both of his goals.

Diego Maradona wants to be considered for the Manchester United job

His first came after he punched the ball over the despairing leap of Peter Shilton and into the back of the net. The Argentina captain even had the audacity and arrogance to celebrate his ‘Hand of God’ goal in front of the same linesman who failed to see the infringement.

His second was a work of art, rightly described as ‘The Goal of the Century’ as he slalomed through the English defence before netting.

Given he made a career out of raising eyebrows, it is no surprise to see the 58-year-old throw his name into the hat to be the next Manchester United manager.

Current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer endured a tough end to his first season in charge and is currently preparing to battle his first summer transfer window as a Premier League manager.

But the man known as ‘El Pibe de Oro’ (Golden Boy) believes he would have the Midas touch in Manchester.

Thanks to Manchester Evening News journalist Nathan Bliss, fans can see just how Maradona would get on as United boss.

He diligently simulated an entire season with the football legend in charge on popular computer game Football Manager.

Here’s how he got on in his first season at Old Trafford.

After appointing the Argentine, Bliss started the game and began the simulation.

He also made sure to make the correct transfers, manager changes, promotions and relegations, to make the simulation as realistic as possible, using a third party editor file.

Manchester United Transfers

As expected, the Argentine was given a sizeable transfer budget by the board in order to improve the squad he inherited from Jose Mourinho.

Totalling a whopping £160.75million (rising to £186.5million), Maradona was not afraid to splash the cash. Here’s who he spent it on:

  • Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan) – £97million (January)
  • Federico Chiesa (Fiorentina) – £47million rising to £69million
  • Mario Gaspar (Villarreal) – £16.75million rising to £20.5million (January)
  • Adrien Rabiot (Paris Saint-Germain) – Free Transfer

The former Barcelona forward signed PSG midfielder Rabiot and Fiorentina winger Chiesa in the summer window, but spent £133.75million in the January window, signing fellow Argentine Icardi from Inter and right-back Gaspar from Villarreal.

Maradona managed to get Alexis Sanchez out of his slump and into the goalscoring charts as the Chilean scored 18 times as well as grabbing eight assists.

But it was Juan Mata who starred for the Red Devils, despite him being in the last year of his deal. The Spaniard achieved an average rating of 7.53 over the course of the season thanks to his 10 assists and 10 goals too.

Style of play

Despite his South American heritage, Maradona preferred to play a direct style of football at United, averaging just 51 per cent possession over the course of the season, just above the likes of Leicester and Everton.

He did, however, manage to shore up a porous defence. United conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League, conceding just 33 goals in 38 games.

The Red Devils scored 70 goals under Maradona, five more than they scored last season, but still 12 fewer than top scorers Liverpool.

Here’s how the Argentine liked to line up his side…

United lost the Premier League title race by ONE GOAL
Football Manager 19

According to Bliss’ simulation for the MEN, Manchester United were top of the league by two points over Liverpool and level on goal difference on the last day.

But, incredibly, Maradona’s side could only manage a 1-1 draw away at Leicester on the final day, whilst Liverpool beat West Ham 2-1 at home.

That means they missed out on their first Premier League trophy since 2013 by ONE GOAL.

While Maradona’s first season as Manchester United boss was ultimately trophy-less, it would be hard to describe it as a failure.

Perhaps Maradona could be onto something…
Football Manager 19

Thanks to the MEN’s hard work, we can see that Maradona actually got the Red Devils playing once again for top honours.

He managed to unite the squad (no pun intended) and did so whilst maintaining an extraordinary 73 per cent win ratio.

The signing of Mauro Icardi proved to be a shrewd one and fans also finally got to see the very best of Alexis Sanchez at Old Trafford.

Perhaps employing him wouldn’t be so mad after all, and it might turn out to be a genius move.

Manchester United transfer gossip: The Football Manager wonderkids Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could try to sign this summer

2 Apr

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is preparing for his first summer transfer window as a Premier League manager and the stakes could not be higher.

The Norwegian was appointed as the new Manchester United boss after a sparkling run of form while in caretaker control.

Ole is at the wheel with a permanent deal at Old Trafford

But now though, the hard work begins as Solskjaer must navigate the world of transfer and multi-million pound deals.

With his predecessors trying, and failing, to attract some of the biggest names in world football, the ‘Baby-Faced Assassin’ has promised to be frugal with his funds.

In order to do so, he may wish to scour the globe for potential superstars rather than trying to outbid rival clubs for current ones.

As a self-confessed fan of computer game Football Manager, Solskjaer may already have his eyes on the superstars of tomorrow. As his 2013 interview with Dagbladet shows, the 46-year-old was already preparing for his career in the dugout.

The former Manchester United striker played Football Manager as a player

“When I played for Man U, I relaxed by playing Football Manager,” revealed Solskjaer.

“It’s a fantastic game, I have learned a lot about football. I have learned a lot about players, especially young talent.

“It resembles real life, when it comes to who will be good players. They have done incredible research.

“I remember thinking the same then, that I do as a manager, you want to give young guns the chance, see them develop.

Championship Manager wonderkid Freddy Adu with Manchester United in 2006

“You could push a few buttons and get extra millions to buy a player. I never enjoyed that. I would rather win in spite of, than because of.

“Many of my players play FIFA and Football Manager. I think it helps them to understand football better.”

So who are the stars of tomorrow the United boss could well be bringing to Old Trafford this summer?

Scroll down to see talkSPORT.com’s list of the Football Manager wonderkids who could potentially be strutting their stuff for the Red Devils.

Harvey Elliott (Fulham)

Harvey Elliott in action for England Under-17s team

At just 15 years of age, Elliott made his senior debut for Fulham in the Carabao Cup clash against Millwall in September 2018.

The production line in west London has produced plenty of fantastic talents in recent years with Ryan Sessegnon and Matt O’Riley graduating from the Cottagers’ academy.

Although further senior appearances have been hard to come by, the right-winger has managed to scored four goals in eight Under-18 Premier League games, assisting two.

Blessed with the ability to shoot from distance and at set-pieces, Harvey Elliott may well be given more game time when Fulham’s inevitable relegation happens.

Xavi Simons (FC Barcelona)

Plays like Messi, named after Xavi and hair like Puyol. No pressure then…

With 1.4 million followers on Instagram and a sponsorship with Nike already agreed, there is every chance fans will be familiar with the 15-year-old.

Born in Amsterdam, Simons gained attention coming through the prestigious La Masia academy as much for his distinctive appearance as his silky skills.

Blessed with excellent dribbling, confidence and an eye for goal, Simons is seen as the next big thing – as his nickname of ‘the new Messi’ would suggest.

A central midfielder with the ability to drive forward, weave past opponents and retain the ball in tight situations at his age could well demand a huge transfer fee in the not-so distant future.

Ronaldo Camara (Benfica)

@rcamara20

Growing up in Portugal with the name ‘Ronaldo‘ must be a tough task, but the young central midfielder has the aggression and skills to ensure he makes a name for himself.

A former graduate of the Sporting Lisbon academy, Camara moved to rivals Benfica at the age of 12 and has continued to make a steady rise through the academy.

The 16-year-old was given the No.10 shirt for the UEFA Youth League squad and has made his mark against the rest of the brightest talents in Europe.

A ‘regista‘ in midfield, Camara presses high to win the ball back before using his wide and illustrious passing range to distribute the ball around to his teammates.

Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund)

Moukoko is scoring goals for fun in Germany

Born in Cameroon, Moukoko gained attention of the German media when he left St Pauli in 2016 on a free transfer to join Dortmund.

The 14-year-old has scored a whopping 34 goals in the B-Junioren Bundesliga West this season, with just 21 games of the season played so far.

The striker made his debut for the Germany Under-16 team at the age of just 12 and found the back of the net twice courtesy of two excellent finishes.

Although he is not on Football Manager 19, expect to see the pacy forward either on the 2020 edition or even the season after that as he continues his development.

Dillon Hooegwerf (Ajax)

The striker has earned comparisons to Patrick Kluivert

If you look back over the last several decades, many of the best players in the world can be traced back to the Ajax academy (known as ‘de Toekomst‘).

With Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie De Jong currently lighting up the Eredivise in the famous white and red strip, the stage is set for Hoogewerf to make a name for himself once they inevitably leave.

The 16-year-old striker has scored nine goals in 16 Eredivise Under-17 appearances this season and has the ability to play on the flanks.

Two-footed, strong and with the ability to create space for himself, the Netherlands Under-16 star is definitely one for the future.

Karamoko Dembele (Celtic)

The prodigal teen will surely star for the Celtic senior team in no time

Fans will remember the Celtic forward from when he gained notoriety in 2016 after being called up for the Under-20 squad at the tender age of 13, before being invited to train with Brendan Rodgers’ senior squad.

Born in London, Dembele has all the attributes required to make it to the very top of world football, with his dribbling, shooting and passing abilities miles ahead of his peers.

Although he has played for England  at Under-16 level, Dembele has also played for Scotland’s Under-17 side and provided an assist on his debut.

He moved to Scotland at the age of one and, although there will almost certainly be a massive play made by both nations for his international allegiance, fans will appreciate just how physically and technically blessed the 16-year-old is.
