Burnley man Ashley Barnes KISSES Cardiff’s Joe Bennett during Premier League clash, both players yellow carded

13 Apr

As the cliché goes, it’s a funny old game.

And at Turf Moor a rather bizarre event happened during a high stakes relegation battle between Burnley and Cardiff.

Barnes and Bennett got very close this afternoon

The incident happened on the stroke of half-time when Bluebirds defender Joe Bennett fouled Clarets frontman Ashley Barnes and the two became embroiled in a confrontation.

Bennett and Barnes were face to face, nose to nose in fact and then Barnes decided to KISS his opponent on the bridge of the nose!

Both players were booked following the incident which you can see a video of below.

As for what happened in the game, well Burnley ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a brace from Barnes’ strike partner Chris Wood, moving them eleven points clear of the relegation zone.

18th-placed Cardiff are still in deep trouble following the defeat and are five points adrift of safety and know they must beat 17th-placed Brighton on Tuesday night at the Amex Stadium to realistically have a chance of staying up.

Cardiff City defender Joe Bennett has committed his future to the Welsh club by signing a new three-year contract.

Joe Bennett has penned a new contract with Cardiff City

The 28-year-old full-back featured regularly under Neil Warnock last season as the Bluebirds secured promotion back to the Premier League.

Bennett, who joined Cardiff from Aston Villa in August 2016, had entered the final year of the contract at the Welsh capital.

But he has now penned fresh terms until 2021.

He told the club’s official website: “I’m really happy. It got sorted out very quickly, so now I can just concentrate on my football and hopefully having a good season.

“We’ve got a good squad and the manager has signed some good, young and hungry players. There is no pressure on us and we can just go out and enjoy it.

“I just can’t wait to get the season going. It will be nice to meet the new lads, hopefully have a good pre-season down in Cornwall and then get stuck into it!”
