Lee Johnson has revealed the bizarre superstition two Bristol City players used to have before games.

The current Robins manager was answering quick-fire questions in a video posted on the EFL’s twitter page.

When asked about who had the best superstition before a match, he revealed what defenders Aden Flint and Joe Bryan used to do.

Johnson said: “Well I’m not sure they had the best one, but I do remember Aden Flint and Joe Bryan having a poo club before every match, which I found very, very strange, but they used to time it so that they could go in and have a chat together and for some reason that used to make them play better.”

Former Bristol City, Yeovil and Kilmarnock midfielder Johnson also revealed who the biggest joker in the dressing room he played with.

He said: “Without a doubt Gavin Williams. A very funny guy and good friend. He was always playing practical jokes.

“One example is new players used to come to the club and we’d invite ourselves round and try and make them feel welcome.

“But every time Gavin would take about 15 tea bags, undo the shower cap and put them inside so the poor guy would have to shower under black water for the next six months until he paid £300 to get the water board out. Things like that were constant with Gav and he’s a very funny guy.”

The 38-year-old also named who his biggest inspirations were in football.

Johnson said: “I suppose I have to look at my dad (Gary Johnson). I think watching him be an average player and become a good manager was interesting to see but was obviously always there in good times and bad when I was a young player in particular.

“In terms of looking at players, Paul Gascoigne was a big idol for myself and Michel Platini. They were the players I idolised as a kid.”

Leeds United transfer news: Whites planning summer swoop for Bristol City full-back Joe Bryan

5 Jul

Leeds United are considering a summer move for Bristol City star Joe Bryan, according to reports.

Bryan, the left-back, caught the eye with some brilliant displays for the Robins last season, coming out as the statistically best left sided defender in the Championship.

Bryan looks set to leave Bristol City after refusing to extend his contract

There is a load of interest in Bryan, with Burnley reportedly bidding for him earlier this summer, and the likes of Bournemouth and Fulham also tracking the 24-year-old.

And now, according to Bristol Live, Leeds have entered the race for Bryan, along with second tier rivals Middlesbrough.

Bryan has one year left on his deal at Ashton Gate, and the report states that he will not renew his contract having already rejected several offers to do so.

Statistically, Bryan was the best Championship left-back last term

Leeds struggled in the left-back position throughout 2017/18, with Gaetano Berardi the most reliable, if uninspiring selection. Vurnon Anita and Laurens De Bock both made appearances on the left of defence to little success, though Tom Pearce did show promise when he broke into the first-team towards the end of the campaign.
