17 Sep

New England Patriots remain top of the NFL.com power rankings after their dominant 43-0 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday night.

There is, though, a new No.2 on the list with the Kansas City Chiefs leapfrogging the Los Angeles Rams on the list.

The New Orleans Saints were the biggest fallers of the week with a loss to the Rams compounded by an injury to Drew Brees which will likely keep the quarterback out for six weeks, and possibly more.

Brees, 40, has previously only missed one match in his 19-year NFL career.

Antonio Brown latest

According to reports, Britney Taylor, the woman who has accused Patriots wide receiver Brown of rape in a civil lawsuit last week, has completed talks with league investigators.

Brown has denied the allegations made against him and there is currently no criminal investigation into the accusations.

Cam Newton a doubt for week 3?

Carolina Panthers superstar quarterback Newton might be absent for their clash with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Panthers confirmed on their official website the 30-year-old was not at practice when the session opened on Tuesday morning.

It’s believe an aggravated foot injury now has him a doubt for the weekend’s game. If he were to miss out, backup Kyle Allen would likely start.

Newton has struggled so far this season as he returns from off-season shoulder surgery.

New York Giants bench Eli Manning

There will be a change of quarterback for the Giants after a 0-2 start to the new season.

Two-time Super Bowl winner Manning is now out with rookie Daniel Jones, no. 6 pick in the 2019 draft, starting in week three.

“Eli and I spoke this morning,” coach Pat Shurmur said Tuesday in a statement. “I told him that we are making a change and going with Daniel as the starter. I also talked to Daniel.

“Eli was obviously disappointed, as you would expect, but he said he would be what he has always been, a good teammate, and continue to prepare to help this team win games. Daniel understands the challenge at hand, and he will be ready to play on Sunday.”

Steelers trade for Dolphins star Minkah Fitzpatrick

Miami have lost another star with safety Fitzpatrick joining Laremy Tunstil and Kenny Stills on the list of players who have now quit the club this season.

The 22-year-old felt it was ‘time to move on’ following reported issues since the arrival of coach Brian Flores.

Fitzpatrick moves to Pittsburgh along with a 2020 fourth-round pick and a 2021 seventh-round pick, in exchange for a first- and fifth-round pick in 2020 and 2021 sixth-round pick.

Kyler Murray: Oklahoma quarterback taken first overall by Arizona Cardinals in 2019 NFL draft

Kyler Murray became the first man to be picked in the first round of both the NFL and MLB drafts.

The quarterback out of Oklahoma was taken first overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the early hours of Friday morning.

Speculation had been growing for weeks that the Cards would select the Heisman Trophy winner as their number one pick despite trading up last year’s draft to get Josh Rosen in the number 10 spot.

Murray was selected ninth overall in the 2018 MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics but continued with football at Oklahoma where he became a star quarterback.

He passed for more than 4,000 yards with 42 touchdowns and rushed for 1,000 yards with another 12 scores.

Questions had been raised about his height and that his 5ft 10 statue would hold him back from being an NFL quarterback.

His multi-sport talent is undeniable and could be a star of the future for the Cardinals who are looking to turn their fortunes around under new head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

If he ever wants to return to baseball in the future, the A’s will retain his rights.

It is the second year in a row that the Oklahoma Sooners have had their quarterback taken as the first overall selection in the NFL draft.

Baker Mayfield, who also won the Heisman Trophy that year, was picked by the Cleveland Browns.

Three quarterbacks were taken in round one of the 2019 NFL draft with the New York Giants surprising a lot of people by taking Duke’s Daniel Jones with the sixth overall selection.

Many analysts and experts did not see Jones going in the first round let alone in the top 10.

The Washington Redskins hope they have found their franchise quarterback after picking up Dwayne Haskins at 15th spot.

The Ohio State Buckeyes man was seen by some as the top passer in this class but slipped down the board.

The Redskins are in desperate need of their signal caller of the future with Alex Smith still recovering from a serious leg injury and journeyman Case Keenum being signed as a temporary fix.

Edge rusher Nick Bosa, also from Ohio State, was the second overall pick as he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers while the New York Jets picked up Quinnen Williams, from Alabama, at three.

As part of the Giants trading Odell Beckham Jr to the Cleveland Browns they got their first round pick and decided to take Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, despite passing on top prospects higher up.

The Giants then traded back up the board to take cornerback Deandre Baker, from Georgia, at number 30.

Reigning Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots, picked up wide receiver N’Keal Harry with the final selection of the first round.

The second and third rounds of this year’s draft take place on Friday.

A published court document read: “The defendant, Robert Kraft, hereby pleads not guilty to all charges and requests a non-jury trial in the above-styled cause.”

As part of a bust in Jupiter, Florida, Kraft was allegedly involved in two incidents last month at the Orchids of Day Spa.

The charge is a first-degree misdemeanour and is punishable by up to a year in jail, a $5,000 (£3,770) fine and 100 hours of community service.

In a statement released last week, a spokesperson for Kraft said they “categorically deny that Mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity.”

The Patriots owner’s arraignment is set for March 27.

Reports suggest there is video evidence of both visits showing the Patriots owner in the act, but he has not been arrested.

The 77-year-old is one of 25 people involved in the prostitution bust who will be charged by Jupiter Police and a warrant will be issued for the billionaire and his attorney’s will be notified.

Human trafficking and prostitution is reportedly rife in spas of this nature across the West Palm Beach County.

About 200 arrest warrants have been issued in recent days and more are expected.

Five arrested for brawl in Boston after New England Patriots celebrate Super Bowl victory over Los Angeles Rams

7 Feb

Five fans have been arrested after a victory parade in Boston to celebrate the New England Patriots’ victory over the LA Rams in Atlanta.

Police Sgt. John Boyle said the majority of those arrested Tuesday during the team’s Super Bowl victory ride through downtown were youngsters, with the majority of charges fuelled by alcohol.

Five men were arrested after the brawl

The fight, which was caught on camera, happened in the afternoon at the end of the parade and saw five men arrested – with several wearing Patriots jerseys.

“It was the dumbest thing. They were all Patriots fans. It was just macho intoxication,” Colin Beatt, the man who shot the video, told the Boston Herald.

Another reported incident was Tom Brady’s daughter managing to just about avoid being hit by a stray can.

Brady won his sixth Super Bowl as the Patriots beat the Rams 13-3.

The 41-year-old superstar quarterback threw for 262 yards and engineered the game’s only touchdown drive as Sony Michel punched the ball in to give New England the lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Julian Edelman – voted MVP with 141 yards receiving – and Rob Gronkowski also shined for New England, who now tie the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl championships.

The pair had 228 of New England’s 262 receiving yards, with both nabbing key receptions in the touchdown drive.

The pair had 228 of New England’s 262 receiving yards, with both nabbing key receptions in the touchdown drive.

With the Patriots needing a score to tighten their grip on the Vince Lombardi trophy, Brady delivered.

Starting at their own 31, the veteran quarterback found Gronkowski with a short pass for 19 yards, then, out of the gun, hit Edelman for a 13-yard completion.

Now at the Rams’ 38-yard line, Brady found Rex Burkhead with a short seven-yard pass before finding 87 again as Gronkowski beat two defenders to finish two yards shy.

This was the only redzone visit of the night and Michel took advantage of good blocking to score his sixth postseason touchdown.

Plaudits should also go to the New England defence, who contained Jared Goff to just 229 yards and the Rams to just three points – having scored an average of 32.9 per game in the regular season.

The strong Patriots defensive performance was capped off when Stephon Gilmore read Goff and secured a pick on the New England two-yard line with just over four minutes remaining.

Super Bowl LIII was the lowest-scoring championship game in the history of the NFL, and it was the Rams who has their tails up early when cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman tipped Brady’s pass and linebacker Cory Littleton slid in for an interception.

The Vince Lombardi trophy is held aloft in Atlanta

However Los Angeles were unable to capitalise going three-and-out – bringing in punter Johnny Hekker for the first of his six punts in the opening 30 minutes.

The Rams failed to convert a third-down in the first half, and finished the opening half with 57 yards on offence.

But crucially, the New England offence was unable to put anything on the board in the first quarter – Stephen Gostkowski missing a 46-yard field goal.

Gostkowski was true with the boot from 42 yards early in the second as the Patriots went into the locker room 3-0 up.

At 41 years old, Brady is the oldest player to start, and to win, a Super Bowl

The second half started in a similar vain to the first with defences prevailing and punters drafted in on three-and-outs.

Hekker grabbed himself a Super Bowl record when he sent the ball down 65 yards on a third-quarter punt – beating the old record by a solitary yard.

On their ensuing possession, the Rams drew the game level as Goff drove his side 42 yards including a deep pass to Robert Woods for 18 yards.

A vital sack on third and seven meant Los Angeles had to settle for three, with Greg Zuerlein doing the honours.

It would turn out to be the Rams’ only score all night as the Patriots found the end zone for a 10-3 lead with seven minutes left before Goff was picked off with less than five remaining.

Gostkowski made it a two-score game late in the fourth when he converted a 41-yard attempt.

For the Rams, it was do or die.

A holding penalty brought the drive back before it had even begun, but as the 24-year-old pushed the Rams down the field, so the clock ticked down.

Zuerlein was drafted in for a 48-yard field goal attempt with eight ticks remaining, which would have reduced the deficit to seven.

The attempt veered left and Brady took a knee to secure the title.

He helped the Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in 2015 and won again in 2017, beating the Atlanta Falcons 34-28.

He has also lost two Super Bowls; to the New York Giants in 2012 and to the Philadelphia Eagles last season.

How much does Gronkowski earn and what is his net worth?

In 2012, Gronkowski signed a six-year deal with the Patriots worth $54million [£41million], the biggest ever contract handed to an NFL tight end.

The terms included an $8million [£6million] signing bonus plus a basic salary of around $8million a year.

His net worth would far exceed that of his $54million player earnings given his wealth of endorsements.

And while the 41-year-old is coming towards the end of his illustrious career, few would bet against him adding another Super Bowl title to his incredible list of honours this weekend.

New England Patriots star Tom Brady and his wife Gisele Bundchen

What is his Super Bowl record?

Brady is a five-time Super Bowl champion and a four-time Super Bowl MVP.

Alongside his legendary coach Bill Belichick, Brady won his first Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2002 when the Patriots beat the St Louis Rams 20-17 in New Orleans.

Brady then claimed glory again in 2004, 2005, 2015 and most recently in 2017.

Who is he married to?

Brady began dating Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen in December 2006.

They married on February 26, 2009, in Santa Monica, California and have two children together, Benjamin Rein and Vivian Lake.

Brady has got a third child, John Edward Thomas Moynahan, whom he had with actress Bridget Moynahan before their split in December 2006.

What does he earn and what is his net worth?

Brady signed a new $30million [£23million], two-year contract last year meaning he pockets $15million [£11.5million] a year.

He is arguably underpaid given his incredible record, being well down the list of highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.

However, he was handed a $10million [£7.5million] signing bonus after agreeing his new deal.

Given his wealth of commercial and advertisement revenue, Brady’s net worth is an estimated $180million [£137million].

Brady’s wife Gisele is also a huge earner in her industry and the couple’s net worth has been priced at somewhere around $540million [£410million].
