Everton transfer news: CSKA Moscow sign Toffees flop Nikola Vlasic on permanent basis after loan spell

19 Jun

CSKA Moscow have signed Nikola Vlasic on a five-year deal from Everton.

The Toffees flop scored eight goals and registered seven assists in a successful loan spell with the Russian giants last season.

Vlasic joined Everton for £10million from Croatian club Hajduk Split in 2017, but struggled to hold down a regular first-team place under former Goodison Park bosses Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce.

The midfielder managed just seven Premier League starts in 2017/18 before being shipped out on loan by current manager Marco Silva.

And after rediscovering his form in Russia, which saw him score in a shock 1-0 win over Real Madrid last October, CSKA announced the permanent signing of Vlasic on Wednesday.

The club tweeted: “#CSKA and @Everton have agreed the transfer of Nikola Vlasic! Croatian midfielder has signed 5-year contract with Red-Blues.”

Everton are yet to officially confirm the 21-year-old’s departure.

Vlasic is currently away with Croatia’s Under-21 team at Euro 2019 and scored in their opening group stage defeat by Romania on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, Croatia assistant manager Ivica Olic revealed Vlasic did not want to return to Everton this summer.

He said: “Nikola told me that he wants to stay at CSKA if he has the chance.

“He is very happy how things are going in Russia for him, he loves life there.

“I think he would like to stay in Russia for one or two years.

“His performances in Russia also caught the attention of national team coach Zlatko Dalic and those performances have played a big role for his national team career.”
