Naoya Inoue vs Nonito Donaire officially announced for World Boxing Super Series final on November 7 in Japan

8 Aug

Naoya Inoue and Nonito Donaire will meet in a firecracker of a World Boxing Super Series final clash on November 7 at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan.

The Japanese IBF champion, and rising pound for pound star, will meet the Filipino WBA champion, and legendary veteran, in the concluding bout of the bantamweight tournament.

Inoue is already a three-weight world champion

Inoue (26 years old, 18-0) knocked out Juan Carlos Payano in round one of his quarter-final and then stopped Emmanuel Rodriguez in round two of his semi as he blitzed his way to the grand stage.

Meanwhile, Donaire (36 years old, 40-5) overcame Ryan Burnett as he suffered an injury and had to withdraw from their quarter-final, and then knocked out replacement Stephon Young after Zolani Tete suffered a similar fate to Burnett and was ruled out of their semi.

The final will be on a Thursday, as is not completely out of the ordinary for boxing events in Japan.

It is set to take place at the Saitama Super Arena – the very same venue at which Floyd Mayweather knocked out Tenshin Nasukawa in their bizarre exhibition last December.

Nonito Donaire is a legendary four-weight world champion

“I can’t wait for the final,” said Inoue.

“Donaire is to me a legend in the sport of boxing, and I am honoured to be sharing the ring with him in the final.

“But I will do my very best to win against the legend to claim the Ali trophy.”

Donaire replied: “I am looking forward to the final in Japan and a great fight. I have fought several world champions, and I will come well prepared.

“Inoue is an amazing fighter, but I saw flaws in his semi-final, and I think I can definitely create a game plan against him and win the Ali Trophy.”

Ryan Burnett vs Nonito Donaire and Josh Taylor vs Ryan Martin live stream free: How to watch WBSS card tonight

Rising British stars Josh Taylor and Ryan Burnett will look to shine in a World Boxing Super Series tournament double-header in Glasgow on Saturday night.

The hometown super-lightweight contender and Northern Irish WBA bantamweight world champion are set to begin their campaigns in the new competitions this weekend, though there is some confusion over where fans can watch the fights.

Josh Taylor was last seen beating Viktor Postol in June, while Ryan Burnett defended his belt against Yonfrez Parejo in March

Taylor will face unbeaten American Ryan Martin in his quarter-final, while Burnett meets former four-division champion Nonito Donaire.

Neither fight will be shown on conventional UK TV as the WBSS have not agreed a deal with any broadcaster that suits them.

Therefore live streaming will be put into effect so UK fans can watch the two bouts.

Details on where to watch both Josh Taylor and Ryan Burnett can be found below.
