‘I will not take any lectures on football from Tottenham fans’ – Arsenal supporter Piers Morgan mocks Spurs for not winning the league in his lifetime

25 Jan

Piers Morgan has slammed Tottenham Hotspur fans for continually criticising Arsenal.

The Gunners fan claimed he ‘can’t take any more of it’ in reference to continued condemnation from his north London rivals, using their lack of silverware in an attempt to silence the dissenting voices.

The Arsenal fan is not happy with the constant criticism from Spurs fans

In recent years, the work of Mauricio Pochettino and the decline of Arsene Wenger has seen Spurs finish above their neighbours for the past two seasons.

However, having already branded Pochettino ‘overrated’, Morgan believes only winning the Premier League can legitimise claims that ‘north London is white’.

“Apparently it’s all changed, now they’re world beaters. Really?!” he asked Adrian Durham on Drivetime.

“Come back to me if you win the league in my lifetime Tottenham fans.

Dele Alli has joined Harry Kane on the treatment table

“Seriously, I can’t take any more of it, I really can’t.

“I’ll take it from United fans, I’ll take it from City fans and if Liverpool deservedly win the league this year, I’ll take it from them.

“But I will not take any lectures on football from Tottenham fans, given their team has not won the league in my lifetime.”

After being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Chelsea on Thursday, the FA Cup surely represents Tottenham’s best chance of winning silverware this season.

With injuries to Harry Kane and Dele Alli threatening to derail Spurs’ season, Morgan was more than happy to hammer home the point that another season without silverware merely strengthens his argument that Arsenal are still superior.

He added: “The thing about Tottenham is, like I always say to my dad, Tottenham haven’t won the league in my lifetime. Think about that.

“No-one looks at me and thinks’ Young guy’ right?

“They think ‘Middle-aged bloke, heading towards old age’.

“I’m fifty-four in March!

“But what they can’t argue with is statistical fact. Tottenham have not won the league since I was born.”

Arsenal fan Piers Morgan and talkSPORT host Adrian Durham clash over whether the Invincibles or Manchester United’s treble winners were better

25 Jan

Piers Morgan and talkSPORT host Adrian Durham have been debating the age old question of who was better; the Invincibles or the treble winning United side of 1999.

Morgan joined Durham on Drive ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday.

Arsenal won the Premier League title in 2004 without losing a game

The diehard Arsenal fan was, naturally, arguing his case for the Invincibles whereas the talkSPORT host was backing the treble winners as the better achievement.

Under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, United won the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League in a remarkable haul.

However, the Gunners went through the entire 2003/04 Premier League season without tasting defeat – but did not succeed in any other competitions and Durham was quick to remind Morgan of that.

Piers Morgan: “The Invincibles did something that was completely unique, which no team is ever likely to replicate and in 100 years time we still be talking about that Arsenal Invincibles team with a magic to it.

“I don’t think you get that from winning a Champions League.”

Adrian Durham: “The problem you’ve got is that only Arsenal fans really care about the Invincibles tag. Nobody else really values it.

“Arsenal only value it because they can’t shout about the Champions League or the treble or they can’t even shout about being back-to-back title winners.”

Morgan: “You don’t think fans of other Premier League teams want to go a season unbeaten? Don’t be ridiculous.”

Durham: “I think they want to win the title. Chelsea did it with five more points the next year. That was better.”

Manchester United’s treble winners

Morgan: “Look at the reaction of City fans and Liverpool fans when they lose a game in the Premier League and realise they can’t replicate it. They know how difficult it is.”

Durham: “Do you know what the most painful thing for you though is? When you lost to Chelsea in that quarter-final, to a Wayne Bridge goal, they then lost to Monaco who then lost to Porto. What an easy route to win the Champions League title by the way.

“And what happened after that? Mourinho, after having won the Champions League, then got the Chelsea job, which he wouldn’t have got if Arsenal had beaten Porto in the final and he completely destroyed Wenger’s legacy.”

Morgan: “None of that I disagree with you about. But in terms of you trying to trivialise the Invincibles and trying to diminish what they achieved and try to bring in the ’99 United team, which got incredibly lucky with that Giggs goal. Which got incredibly lucky at the Nou Camp, because I was there.

Durham: “Were they lucky when Bergkamp missed a penalty?”

Morgan: “Well Bergkamp should never have taken a penalty, he was no good at penalties.”

‘Overrated!’ – Piers Morgan slams Mauricio Pochettino and claims Tottenham Hotspur are no better now than when Harry Redknapp was in charge

25 Jan

Piers Morgan called Mauricio Pochettino ‘overrated’ and claimed Tottenham Hotspur are no better now than when they were managed by Harry Redknapp.

The Arsenal-mad fan was presenting Drivetime alongside Adrian Durham from the Emirates before the Gunners’ FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.

Pochettino is ‘overrated’ according to Piers Morgan

Understandably, Morgan took pleasure in watching Spurs crash out of the Carabao Cup on Thursday night to rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The result means the only legitimate chance Pochettino has of winning silverware this season will be in the FA Cup or the Champions League.

And although it is still entirely possible the north Londoners can win both, Morgan cannot see it happening.

And the reason for that, according to the television presenter, is because Pochettino and the current Spurs team are not good enough.

“I only say ‘Pok-ettino’ to annoy Spurs fans,” he revealed when asked why he pronounces the Argentine’s name the way he does.

“But the fact that no one really knows how to pronounce his name says it all to me. He is overrated

“I genuinely do not believe that Spurs, under Pochettino, are any better than they were under Harry Redknapp. I genuinely don’t.

“And I certainly don’t think Spurs are as good now as they were in the days of Lineker and Gazza, for example, and Jurgen Klinsmann even and Ossie Ardilles!

Redknapp assembled a Spurs team containing Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Rafael van der Vaart

“They got on about this Spurs team now as if they are some sort of world beaters; they have won nothing of significance!

“They’ve just been dumped out of another cup and someone sent me this the other day. [Gonzalo] Higuain has come in and he has made more finals in six hours than Tottenham have done in the last 15 years!”

Piers Morgan slams ‘PATHETIC’ Mesut Ozil and questions Arsenal midfielder’s heart on Drivetime

25 Jan

Piers Morgan slammed Mesut Ozil for ‘not having the heart’ to play for Arsenal and thinks the midfielder may well be off soon.

Signed in 2013 from Real Madrid for a club record £42.5million, Ozil initially lit up the Premier League with his silky skills and vision.

However, his inconsistent form and failure to nail down a regular place has continually frustrated Gunners fans.

While presenting Drivetime alongside Adrian Durham from the Emirates, Morgan conceded the 30-year-old was an incredible player.

But the Arsenal-mad fan was left infuriated by what he described as ‘a tragedy’ and a perceived lack of drive ahead of the FA Cup clash live on talkSPORT.

“Purely on ability, he is a world class footballer,” he said

Ozil has divided the opinion of Arsenal fans since his move in 2013

“I’ve got to say that, Emery has concluded, he has got no heart – he has got no ticker.

“He may be a great player, when he wants to be, but who wants to have a top player on £350,000-a-week who has not got the heart to come into every game and give 100%?

“Ozil I think has been found out by Emery. I think he coasted under Wenger and I think we will be saying goodbye to him sooner rather than later.

“Although I hate to have to admit this, you have been right about Ozil from the start. It’s a tragedy; I don’t know what has happened to him.

Ozil and Cristiano Ronaldo terrified defenders in LaLiga between 2010 – 2013

“On his day, he is one of the best in the world. When he was at Real Madrid – fantastic. A few games for Arsenal he’s been brilliant.

“But for nearly half a million pounds a week he can’t even get on the bench for some of the Premier League games now. Pathetic.”

With Aaron Ramsey off to Juventus in the summer, Emery may well sell Ozil to fund moves for a new-look central midfielder.
