23 Sep

Below, talkSPORT gives you Monday’s gossip and rumours from the wrestling world.

Finn Balor feuded with ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt during the summer

Brock Lesnar to make regular appearances on SmackDown

Lesnar will face Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship during SmackDown’s debut episode on FOX on October 4.

The Beast has been a part-time performer for WWE since returning in 2012.

However, it seems like FOX and WWE chiefs have tied him down to more dates.

Lesnar is set to make further SmackDown appearances on October 11, October 25 and November 15.

The 42-year-old has been heavily tipped to end Kingston’s WWE Championship reign.

Reason behind surprise Universal Championship match

Rey Mysterio, Ricochet, AJ Styles, Robert Roode and Shinsuke Nakamura are set to compete in a Fatal 5-Way match on Raw tonight.

And the winner will earn a Universal Championship shot against Seth Rollins next week, in a show which is being billed as the ‘season premiere’ of Raw.

Rollins is likely to come out victorious as he has to defend his title against ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt at next month’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.

The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer claims that with NXT debuting on USA and SmackDown set to move to FOX, they do not want to shift too much focus away from Raw.

Finn Balor return update

Balor has not been seen in a WWE ring since SummerSlam when he was destroyed by The Fiend.

The former Universal champion has been taking time off, which included marrying Vero Rodriguez last month.

Kane ‘creeped out’ by ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt

On last week’s episode of Raw, WWE legend Kane was attacked by The Fiend.

It made Wyatt look even stronger ahead of his Universal Championship match with Rollins.

Kane told the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast: “To be involved with the Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt/Fiend storyline, what an honour to be able to do that. It was a great night.

“Even I get creeped out by Bray Wyatt as The Fiend. I think that is a tremendous character and I’m also really happy when any of the guys are able to be successful.

“I think Bray is very creative and everything he has done as Bray Wyatt and now The Fiend character.

“It has all been great and he is such a wonderful performer.”

This week’s Raw and SmackDown shows have gone down well with the WWE universe.

Below, talkSPORT gives you the latest gossip and rumours from the wrestling world.

WWE: Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar has the WWE title in his sights

Details behind Brock Lesnar’s WWE title challenge

Kofi Kingston successfully defended his WWE Championship against Randy Orton at Clash of Champions on Sunday.

However, he faces his biggest challenge yet in Brock Lesnar after accepting The Beast’s challenge for his title on SmackDown this week.

The pair will go head-to-head on SmackDown’s debut episode on FOX on October 4.

Post Wrestling say the match has ‘been in the works for a long time’.

And we could have got a glimpse into the future as Lesnar hit Kingston with a devastating F5.

Vince McMahon wants to bury Cedric Alexander

The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reports Vince McMahon wants to bury Cedric Alexander.

The former 205 Live high-flyer has had impressive matches with AJ Styles and Drew McIntyre since being called up to the main roster.

And he has even been feuding with Styles for the United States Championship in recent weeks.

However, Meltzer claims Alexander’s push will be brief.

Kevin Owens ‘sues’ Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon fired Kevin Owens on last week’s episode of SmackDown after the self-proclaimed Best in the World lost to Chad Gable in the King of the Ring semi-finals.

But this week, Owens filed a $25million wrongful termination lawsuit against McMahon.

What happens next is anyone’s guess…

Chris Jericho reveals why he quit WWE

There was a time when Chris Jericho and Owens were meant to go one-on-one for the Universal Championship in the WrestleMania 33 main event.

However, Goldberg beat Owens for the title at Fastlane and ended up losing it to Lesnar at the Show of Shows.

The match between Jericho and Owens was demoted to a United States Championship contest, which the latter won.

Jericho, who left WWE last year and is currently AEW’s world champion, told the Mature Audiences Mayhem podcast: “Vince said that it’s going to be me versus Kevin Owens for the world title at WrestleMania and you are going to win the title, f*** yeah!

Chris Jericho won the AEW World Championship at AEW’s All Out pay-per-view last month
All Elite Wrestling

“Next week, he doesn’t tell me, but I hear that it’s changed to Brock Lesnar versus Bill Goldberg for the title.

“And not only did they take us out of the main event – and, once again, just because I was told I have no right to it and things change all the time, I’m a big boy, I can handle it.

“But to take us from the main event slot and then move us to the second match on the card on a card that has 12 matches on it? I was like, that’s a f****** insult.”

Seth Rollins’ first Universal Championship title defence will be against Braun Strowman at Clash of Champions

Seth Rollins and Triple H unfollow Ric Flair on Twitter

Ric Flair has threatened legal action against WWE if they keep on using Becky Lynch’s ‘The Man’ gimmick.

The former world champion held the same nickname during his time with WWE and has even trademarked the catchphrase ‘to be the man, you gotta beat the man’.

And last week, Flair’s Limited Liability Company filed for ‘The Man’ trademark.

Raw Women’s champion Lynch has been calling herself ‘The Man’ since last year and is one of the company’s biggest stars.

In response to Flair’s threat of legal action, WWE chief Triple H and Lynch’s fiancé, Seth Rollins, have unfollowed The Nature Boy on Twitter.

Title change planned for Clash of Champions

The Wrestling Observer claim Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman will lose their Raw Tag Team titles to Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler at the Clash of Champions pay-per-view next weekend.

Braun Strowman could win the Universal Championship at Clash of Champions

It is a move that is set to create tension between Rollins and Strowman, who face each other for The Architect’s Universal Championship later on in the night.

Stephanie McMahon reveals her top three favourite wrestlers of all time

Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and The Rock are Stephanie’s favourite wrestlers of all time.

The WWE’s chief brand officer even left her husband, Triple H, off the list!

Explaining her reasoning, she told the Barstool Sports podcast, The Corp: “Hulk Hogan is one of the most easily recognised icons in the world.

“He is everything because also his size, his stature, that Fu Manchu [moustache], the long blond hair. He just really is one of the first ever, I think, truly global icons.

“Ric Flair is arguably one of the greatest superstars ever in the history of our business from a pure talent standpoint.

Triple H has been married to Stephanie McMahon since 2003

“I think that even Hulk Hogan would say ‘Ric Flair has me beat’. Ric, he transcends our business in many different ways than I think Hulk Hogan does.

“And it feels like I’m maybe not picking one over the other but I’m picking each one for different [reasons].

“I think The Rock, especially because with all the different platforms that exist today, I think Rock has, he’s probably the number one most easily recognised WWE superstar of all time.

“And not only is he a successful actor, he also runs Seven Bucks Studios, he’s an entrepreneur, he’s an executive, he’s a philanthropist.”

Future plans for The Undertaker

The Undertaker is set to return to WWE when SmackDown Live takes place in New York’s Madison Square Garden next week.

It will be The Deadman’s first appearance since his successful tag team match with Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules in July.

The Undertaker makes sporadic appearances for WWE nowadays

While his role for the show remains unknown, The Wrestling Observer say his appearance will NOT lead to another match.

WWE and AEW news: Stephanie McMahon confirms dad, Vince, hates sneezing, Sheamus gives injury update

4 Sep

Below, talkSPORT gives you the latest gossip and rumours from the wrestling world.

Sheamus has not wrestled since April

Stephanie McMahon confirms Vince McMahon hates sneezing

In the past, ex-WWE employees have revealed Vince hates it when people sneeze in front of him.

And the WWE owner’s daughter, Stephanie, has confirmed those hilarious rumours.

She told the Barstool Sports podcast, The Corp: “He doesn’t hate me for it [sneezing], but it’s always like a grrr, a grimace.

“But on the flip side, I’ve been around when he has sneezed. It’s just because he doesn’t like anything he can’t control.

“The fact he can’t control the sneeze makes him upset.”

Sin Cara nearing return

Sin Cara underwent knee surgery last summer and has not been seen on WWE TV since.

But the masked man appears set for an in-ring return after using social media to promote a WWE Live event earlier this week, which takes place in El Paso, Texas on September 27.

Sheamus gives injury update

Sheamus has been sidelined since suffering a concussion on the first SmackDown Live episode after WrestleMania 35 in April.

The Grand Slam champion’s absence led to retirement rumours, which the Irishman denied.

So, when will we see Sheamus in a WWE ring again?

He told Wrestling Inc: “I don’t really know what the crack is. I’m still waiting. I’m just, again, enjoying my time. Like, it’s very hard for me to sit at home all the time.

Sheamus & Cesaro (Smackdown)
The Bar – Sheamus and Cesaro – were a very successful tag team

“But I don’t really know what the story is as of right now. I’m still kind of in the dark about it, but I’m just training away like I’m trying to stay in the best shape I possibly can.”

Chris Jericho LOSES AEW World Championship belt while eating dinner

Less than 24 hours after beating Adam Page to win the inaugural championship at All Out on Saturday, Jericho’s $100,000 belt was reported stolen.

The former WWE star realised his precious strap had gone missing while eating dinner at a LongHorn Steakhouse in Tallahassee, Florida.

More title matches added to Clash of Champions card

The Clash of Champions card is starting to stack up.

This week’s Raw and SmackDown Live episodes have seen Raw Women’s Championship and Intercontinental Championship matches announced.

Sasha Banks will challenge Becky Lynch for her title, while The Miz takes on Shinsuke Nakamura.

Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville beat Women’s Tag Team champs Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in a non-title match on SmackDown Live, so there is likely to be a repeat of that bout, but for the gold, at Clash of Champions.

Bayley shocks WWE Universe by turning heel for first time on Raw

3 Sep

Bayley shocked the wrestling world by turning heel for the first time in her WWE career.

The Hugger and Becky Lynch were taking on WWE Women’s Tag Team champs Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in the main event on Raw last night.

Bayley‘s heel turn got a huge pop from the live audience on Raw

Sasha Banks, whose challenge for Lynch’s Raw Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions had been accepted earlier in the night, watched the match from ringside.

As Lynch was building momentum against Bliss and Cross, Banks entered the ring and attacked her rival from behind.

And before The Boss could hit Lynch with a chair, Bayley grabbed the weapon from her best friend, appearing to rescue The Man from another Banks beatdown.

But in shocking scenes, the SmackDown Live Women’s champion repeatedly hit Lynch on the back with the steel chair, while Banks stood back and smiled.

Bayley, who is set to defend her title against Charlotte Flair at Clash of Champions, is likely to explain her actions on Wednesday’s episode of SmackDown Live.

Bayley has been adored by wrestling fans since debuting on NXT and the main roster, but a heel turn is something the WWE Universe had been crying out for.

A heel alliance between Bayley and Banks could take some stopping.

WWE and AEW news: Why Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler teamed up, Wildcard Rule to be ditched and NXT UK superstar Noam Dar challenges Roman Reigns

30 Aug

WWE’s Clash of Champions pay-per-view is just over two weeks away.

Below, talkSPORT gives you the latest gossip and rumours from the wrestling world.

Vince McMahon and WWE are building their way to Clash of Champions

Why Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler teamed up

Roode and Ziggler were a surprise pairing in Raw’s Tag Team Turmoil match earlier this week.

The newly-formed duo saw off seven other teams to earn a title shot against Raw Tag Team champs Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman at Clash of Champions.

Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode have a title shot at Clash of Champions

The Wrestling Observer claim Raw Executive Director Paul Heyman is a big fan of Roode and wants him to be pushed more.

The former NXT champion has been a forgotten man since failing to win the United States Championship at WrestleMania 34.

NXT UK superstar challenges Roman Reigns

Noam Dar takes on Travis Banks at NXT UK TakeOver in Cardiff on Saturday.

But he appears to have former world champion Reigns in his sights.

He told the Daily Star: “Honestly anyone from Raw and Smackdown can come [to NXT UK] and have a go.

Roman Reigns (left) is one of WWE’s top stars

“I would like to see Roman Reigns come down to NXT UK for a challenge. I can beat him and be the biggest dog in the WWE Universe.

“And that is d-u-g. Dug, not dog. Get rid of that Americanism real quick.”

WWE to scrap the Wildcard Rule

The Wildcard Rule has been a controversial one since being implemented in the wake of WrestleMania 35.

It effectively ended the brand split, allowing superstars from SmackDown Live and Raw to appear on each show.

But the Wrestling Observer say WWE are talking about bringing back permanent rosters again.

It is a move that would be welcomed by most WWE fans.

WWE and AEW news: Becky Lynch mocks Sasha Banks’ promo, AJ Styles signs ‘last contract’

27 Aug

WWE’s Clash of Champions card is starting to take shape.

Below, talkSPORT gives you the latest gossip and rumours from the wrestling world.

AJ Styles is a major star in WWE

Becky Lynch mocks Sasha Banks

Banks successfully defeated Natalya in her first match back since WrestleMania 35 on Raw this week.

But before the bout, Banks cut a promo to open the show, and Lynch took no time in poking fun at her newest rival.

The Raw Women’s champion tweeted: “Pity you can’t promo in emo memes and song lyrics too, huh?”

The tweet referenced Banks’ mysterious and ambiguous tweets and Instagram posts that she uploaded during her time away from WWE.

AJ Styles’ WWE future is in no doubt

Styles signed a new WWE deal earlier this year after a stellar 2018.

And at the age of 42, it appears it will be the last pro wrestling contract he signs, ending any potential links to rival promotion AEW.

AJ Styles (middle) has been with WWE since 2016

The United States champion told the Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia podcast: “I can tell you that the contract that I signed, here in the WWE, is my last. This is it for me.

“This is where I’m going to end my career no matter what happens. I got to, you know? I want to be there for my kids.”

Chris Jericho makes big WWE claim

Jericho claims WWE will not grant another superstar his or her release due to the threat posed by AEW.

Shawn Spears, formerly known as Tye Dillinger, was granted his release by WWE in February and joined AEW in the subsequent months.

Luke Harper, who has been used sparingly by WWE in the past year, asked for his release in April, but the company rejected it.

And Jericho, who signed a permanent deal with AEW in January, believes Dillinger had a lucky escape.

Shawn Spears is set to wrestle Cody at AEW’s All Out pay-per-view on August 31
All Elite Wrestling

He told Busted Open Radio: “I don’t know why [Shawn Spears] sat on the sidelines for eight months. I don’t know why a lot of guys sit on the sidelines for eight months.

“But you know how it works up North, brother. If you fall out of grace, you’re finished being played with as Vince [McMahon’s] toy, you get put in the corner.

“Thankfully, Shawn got his release. He’s the last one that will. Nobody will ever get their release from WWE again. Nobody.”

Huge title match announced for Clash of Champions

In extraordinary circumstances, Seth Rollins will defend his Universal Championship against Braun Strowman – despite the pair holding the Raw Tag Team titles.

Rollins and Strowman will be in action twice on the pay-per-view as they defend their gold against newly-formed tag team Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.

The Universal Championship match is likely to be the main event on the card.

Below, talkSPORT gives you the latest gossip and rumours from the wrestling world.

Jon Moxley suffers injury

Jon Moxley has injured his elbow, according to The Wrestling Observer.

The former WWE star is believed to have been working hurt in recent weeks.

But the injury could put his All Out pay-per-view Singles match with Kenny Omega on August 31 in doubt.

Triple H to stay in charge of NXT

NXT will become a two-hour weekly show on the USA Network from September 18.

And recent reports claimed Vince McMahon, who runs main roster shows Raw and SmackDown Live, was going to be more hands-on with NXT.

However, Pro Wrestling Sheet claim the NXT product is set to stay the same, with Triple H remaining in charge.

The developmental show has been a huge hit with wrestling fans for years.

Rowan undergoes name change… again

Upon returning from injury to help Daniel Bryan defend his WWE Championship against AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble in January, Erick Rowan’s name was shortened to just ‘Rowan’.

Rowan has been in a stable with Daniel Bryan since January

But seven months down the line, Rowan is now ‘Erick Rowan’ again, according to WWE’s website.

WWE and AEW news: ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt to retire The Undertaker at WrestleMania 36, CM Punk could host FS1 show

22 Aug

WWE never stops and neither does the news.

Below, talkSPORT gives you the latest gossip and rumours from the wrestling world.

‘The Fiend’ has been a revelation so far in WWE

‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt to retire The Undertaker?

Bray Wyatt’s return to WWE this year has gone perfectly so far.

His new persona ‘The Fiend’ debuted in emphatic style at SummerSlam, making light work of former Universal champion Finn Balor.

And it appears WWE want to make Wyatt one of their top stars.

The Dirty Sheets podcast report the company are planning to have ‘The Fiend’ win the Universal Championship and then go on to defeat and RETIRE The Undertaker at WrestleMania 36.

Wyatt lost to Taker at WrestleMania 31 in a forgettable match, however, ‘The Fiend’ would present a whole different challenge to The Deadman.

CM Punk could host WWE show on FS1

Punk controversially left WWE in 2014 and has publicly criticised the company on numerous occasions ever since.

He tried his hand at mixed martial arts, but lost two of his fights in UFC.

SmackDown Live’s move to FOX in October will also see WWE produce a show on FOX’s FS1 channel.

And The Wrestling Observer claim Punk’s representatives have reached out to FOX to suggest having Punk co-host the show.

CM Punk has slammed Vince McMahon in the past

Punk would be contracted to FOX, not WWE, but it would still be a sensational and surprising move for the former world champion.

First Championship match announced for Clash of Champions

Bayley (c) vs Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Live Women’s title has been the first official Championship match made for next month’s Clash of Champions pay-per-view.

The Queen called out The Hugger on a Moment of Bliss, which ended with the latter pushing the former off a chair.

The pair are believed to be pulling off stellar matches when facing each other at house shows, so WWE fans could be in for a treat.

Will Sting wrestle in WWE again?
Sting could make a sensational return to WWE

The Undertaker vs Sting plans

WWE’s Crown Jewell pay-per-view is set to return to Saudi Araba in October.

Vince McMahon will need a big main event to please the Saudi General Sports Authority – and he could be paving his way towards one.

The Dirty Sheets podcast claim WWE have plans to try to tempt Sting out of retirement to take on The Undertaker. The 60-year-old hung up his wrestling boots three years ago due to neck problems.

The Undertaker had a disastrous match with Goldberg in Saudi Arabia in June

He has not wrestled since losing to Seth Rollins at Night of Champions in 2015, but could be swayed back by a big payday and a chance to go one-on-one with The Undertaker for the first time.

SmackDown Live to become a three-hour show?

The Wrestling Observer claim WWE are in talks to make SmackDown Live a three-hour show when it moves to FOX in October.

The Friday night slot could see the show go from two hours to three.

Raw became a three-hour show in 2012, however, the two-hour slot has always seemed to suit SmackDown.

Roman Reigns’ attacker revealed

Last week’s episode of SmackDown Live ended with Daniel Bryan promising to reveal Reigns’ attacker.

The Big Dog has been the victim of planned attacks which saw backstage equipment fall on him, before he was almost run over by a car.

Buddy Murphy, Samoa Joe and Rowan have all been accused as the perpetrator in recent weeks.

And following Bryan’s reveal this week, the WWE Universe were left disappointed. Bryan unveiled Reigns’ ‘attacker’ to be an unknown man who looked extremely similar to Rowan.

The plot thickens…

WWE to receive huge money from NXT’s switch to TV

NXT has been exclusively aired on the WWE Network since 2014 – but that is all about to change.

On Wednesday, WWE announced NXT will air a two-hour weekly live show on the USA Network from September 18.

The Wrestling Observer claim WWE are set to make ‘$50million or more’ from the move.
