talkSPORT.com rounds up all the latest news and gossip from the world of wrestling…

Seth Rollins defeats Brock Lesnar for the Universal title

Seth Rollins closed out SummerSlam

Fans seem to seldom enjoy Brock Lesnar matches in protest of his part-time deal, but there is no denying that when the booking is right and he has the correct dance partner, he is capable of magic.

With Seth Rollins at SummerSlam for the Universal title, Lesnar had one of his best nights in recent memory, and yet, he lost the title.

Rollins defeated Lesnar clean as a whistle after a third Curb Stomp to pick up the 1-2-3.

The Beast Incarnate had only regained the Universal title from Rollins after cashing in his Money in the Bank contract at Extreme Rules last month.

However, despite taking a few brutal beatings over the past couple of weeks, Rollins managed to come out on top in SummerSlam’s main event and earn a decisive victory over a legendary performer like Lesnar.

Fans displeased with Goldberg’s return after disaster match with Undertaker

Goldberg had a disaster outing at the last Saudi Arabia show and Dolph Ziggler was tasked with building him back up at SummerSlam on Sunday.

The Showoff did his job as the former WCW icon had his redemption the same way The Undertaker had his at Extreme Rules.

Goldberg won the match the same way he’s won any other match: hit a few spears and the jackhammer – one, two, three.

Ziggler kept picking the mic up after the match and invited more punishment from the Hall of Famer.

The idea from WWE is to rebuild Goldberg’s name ahead of the Crown Jewel pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia later this year.

While that seemed to be achieved and the live audience enjoyed the moment, plenty on Twitter did not.

Matt Riddle reveals tense real-life backstage confrontation with Goldberg

Matt Riddle is a blooming superstar in NXT

Any wrestling fan knows that Matt Riddle and Goldberg do not get along at this point.

For the first time ever, the two men were in the same place under a WWE roof on Sunday and they finally came face-to-face.

In case you missed it, NXT star Riddle absolutely slated the WWE Hall of Famer for his terrible performance against the Undertaker in Saudi Arabia.

He doubled down on that take when he spoke to talkSPORT at Download Festival this summer and has refused to back down on his claims against either Goldberg or Brock Lesnar.

At SummerSlam, Riddle was backstage filming Watch Along on the WWE Network and he watched the Goldberg match.

During the show, he explained the altercation he had with Goldberg earlier that day.

WWE and AEW news: Drew McIntyre ‘frustrated’ with SummerSlam snub, Vince McMahon to become involved with NXT

11 Aug

SummerSlam is only a few hours away and there are high hopes for the show.

Below, talkSPORT gives you the latest gossip and rumours from the wrestling world.

Vince McMahon is preparing for SummerSlam

Drew McIntyre not happy

The Scottish Psychopath does not have a match at SummerSlam.

McIntyre has been in a stable with Shane McMahon since WrestleMania.

He could interfere in the Shane vs Kevin Owens bout, however, he will still be disappointed about being left off the card.

In an interview with WWE’s Kathy Kelly, McIntyre said: “It’s a little frustrating, but the truth is, the thing I’ve learned is patience.”

Vince McMahon to become involved with NXT

NXT, which airs every Wednesday on the WWE Network, is reportedly moving to Fox Sport 1.

The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer claims the move to weekly television would have to see Vince become involved in the product.

Triple H has had the reins of NXT since its conception in 2012 with Vince running Raw and SmackDown Live.

But that could soon change.

Alexa Bliss wants Trish Stratus match

Concussion problems stopped Bliss from facing Stratus at Evolution last year.

And despite Stratus saying her match with Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam will be her last – Bliss hopes she sticks around.

Alexa Bliss is still keen to face Trish Stratus

The Goddess told the Express: “I would love to face Trish one day. Obviously she will be facing Charlotte at SummerSlam.

“Definitely one day I would like to get that opportunity because it’s still a match that I always wanted to have.

“It came close at Evolution. Yeah, definitely I want to face Trish at some point.”

WWE and AEW news: Bobby Lashley injury update, Roman Reigns SummerSlam plans

8 Aug

The go-home shows for Raw and SmackDown Live are done with SummerSlam just three days away.

Below, talkSPORT gives you the latest gossip and rumours from the wrestling world.

Roman Reigns is likely to be on the SummerSlam card

Roman Reigns’ SummerSlam plans

Reigns has been targeted by a mystery attacker for the past week. Staging equipment fell on to him on SmackDown Live before he dodged a moving car on Raw.

In a backstage segment to end Raw, the former Universal champion tussled with Buddy Murphy, who claimed Rowan was the perpetrator.

WrestleVotes report that WWE is considering Murphy as Reigns’ SummerSlam opponent.

If the match goes ahead, it will be the first time fans see Murphy inside a WWE ring since he was drafted to SmackDown Live in April.

Bobby Lashley update

Lashley has been out of action since the July 15 episode of Raw.

Pro Wrestling Sheet claim the 43-year-old has recently undergone successful elbow surgery.

Bobby Lashley is on the mend

He is not expected to return to the ring until November.

Goldberg to stick around

Many believe Goldberg will leave WWE after his match with Dolph Ziggler this weekend.

However, The Wrestling Observer say executive director Paul Heyman is keen to use the former world champion in future storylines.

Goldberg will have a chance to redeem himself when he faces Ziggler after his horror match against The Undertaker at Super ShowDown in June.

Trish Stratus’ final match looms

Stratus has revealed her dream match with Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam will be her last.

Since announcing her retirement from wrestling in 2006, Stratus has only competed at the 2018 Royal Rumble and Evolution pay-per-views.

However, SummerSlam will be the final time she wrestles.

Stratus told Busted Open Radio: “I sort of feel like this is a good final match for me, because I don’t really think that you could do anything more than this.

“It feels like a good ending to me – a real ending.”

Goldberg could demolish Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam

Ziggler insulted Goldberg in a recent promo and superkicked fellow Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels two weeks ago.

Goldberg has not been seen in a wrestling ring since his disastrous match with The Undertaker at WWE Super ShowDown in June.

But he could be given a chance to redeem himself by beating Ziggler on Sunday.

Seth Rollins is not a fan of intergender wrestling

WWE teased an intergender match between Nia Jax and Dean Ambrose earlier this year.

It came after Jax’s participation in the men’s Royal Rumble when she was on the receiving end of devastating finishers from Ziggler, Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton.

When asked about the possibility of WWE putting on intergender matches in the future, Rollins said: “There are places for it.

“But this full-on independent style women vs men match where the women are chokeslamming the men?

“Our business is based in realism, so let’s do that as best we can. I think let’s live in reality a little bit here.”

Stipulation added to SummerSlam title match

Becky Lynch vs Natalya for the Raw Women’s Championship has been turned into a submission match.

Natalya mentioned the stipulation in an interview with WWE last week, insisting she would not tap out on home soil in Canada.
