Tottenham transfer news: Christian Eriksen ‘holding out for Real Madrid move’ in January

15 Sep

Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen is hoping for a January move to Real Madrid, according to reports.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a transfer to the LaLiga giants and Manchester United during the summer, but remained at Spurs.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s £70million asking price was believed to be a stumbling block.

However, there is likely to be interest in Eriksen in the January transfer window, with the Dane’s contract running out at the end of the season.

The playmaker revealed he wanted ‘a new challenge’ in June after helping Tottenham reach the Champions League final last term.

Now, Spanish outlet Marca claim Real Madrid chiefs are convinced Eriksen will be their player next year.

Eriksen admitted his disappointment at failing to secure a transfer away from north London.

He said: “I wish I could decide just as in the Football Manager (game) but unfortunately I can’t.

“I don’t read much of what is written. And now I have been involved for many years, where there have been many rumours every year.

“But it’s clear that it’s been a little more violent this year because my contract is about to expire.

“I know a lot of people are interested in where to play. That’s the way it is. This is how it is in a top club if you have done well. There will always be rumours.”

Keen not to lose him for nothing at the end of his contract, recent reports claimed Tottenham are planning to offer Eriksen to Juventus in a swap deal for Paulo Dybala.

But appears Spain is the Dane’s preferred destination and Real could make their move when the transfer window reopens.

Paul Pogba ‘agreed’ to leave Manchester United for PSG in stunning summer transfer… but move failed because of Neymar saga

12 Sep

Paul Pogba allegedly agreed to a transfer which would have seen him leave Manchester United and sign for Paris Saint-Germain during the summer.

But the move eventually did not happen – because of Neymar.

According to stunning reports in Italy, Pogba, the France midfielder, agreed a huge £429,000-a-week contract with the Ligue 1 champions just days before the transfer window closed.

Pogba was strongly linked with an Old Trafford exit all summer long, having admitted he was ready for ‘a new challenge’ after a tough season with the Red Devils.

Real Madrid and his former club Juventus were said to be front-runners to sign him, but the World Cup winner ultimately remained in the Premier League as Manchester United chiefs stood firm.

However, Italy outlet Calciomercato claim the club had agreed to let their star asset go back to his homeland in the summer in a stunning agreement with PSG.

But the report says the deal didn’t go through as Neymar didn’t complete his purported return to Barcelona.

Pogba’s switch is said to have hinged on the Brazilian’s possible exit.

But he ended up staying in Paris as the LaLiga champions couldn’t match PSG’s eye-watering £273million valuation.

The Pogba saga appears far from over, however.

A move in January could still be on the cards, with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos recently opening the door for his move to the Bernabeu.

Tottenham transfer news: Spurs ‘open to swapping’ Christian Eriksen for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala in January

12 Sep

Tottenham could allow Christian Eriksen to join Juventus in January as part of a stunning swap deal for Paulo Dybala.

According to reports in Italy, Dybala could end up moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after all when the transfer window re-opens, having been strongly linked with Spurs over the summer.

The north London club were one of the sides linked with a move for Dybala, with Premier League rivals Manchester United also keen, but the Argentine ace ultimately stayed in Turin.

However, it appears his days at Juve are numbered as he has only played 14 minutes of football under new manager Maurizio Sarri this season.

And Tuttosport claim Tottenham could offer Eriksen to the Serie A champions in exchange for the forward.

Eriksen was also heavily linked with leaving Spurs over the summer but, after a nervous wait for manager Mauricio Pochettino, he stayed put.

However, the Danish playmaker’s current contract expires at the end of the season and he is unlikely to sign an extension, having admitted he is keen for a new challenge.

It means the Champions League finalists could lose their star man for nothing next summer, and he could even agree a pre-contract deal with another club as soon as January, with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus all waiting in the wings.

Spurs are said to be resigned to Eriksen’s exit, but are willing to let him join Juventus as long as Dybala comes the other way as his direct replacement.

Eriksen has been one of the Premier League’s most prolific goal creators since joining Tottenham from Ajax in 2013 for just £11million.

He has made a total of 281 appearances for Spurs, scoring 67 goals and providing 86 assists.

Dybala would be a decent replacement for the Dane. The 25-year-old was Juventus’ main man until the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo which shifted him out the starting XI.

That had an effect on his goal output last season, scoring just ten and assisting five, but his numbers before Ronaldo make for impressive reading – 26 goals and seven assists in the 2017/18 campaign, 19 goals and nine assists in 16/17 and 23 goals and nine assists in 15/16.

Phil Foden urged to leave Manchester City on loan – ‘He’s not learning anything on the bench’, says Tony Cottee

11 Sep

Manchester City starlet Phil Foden has been urged to leave the Premier League champions on loan for the sake of his career.

The 19-year-old has shown his star quality during the international break, dictating play in England Under-21s’ 3-2 win over Turkey before scoring both goals in Monday’s 2-0 victory over Kosovo.

His form will have given Pep Guardiola a selection headache, with pressure mounting on the Spanish boss to give the young midfielder – who has played just ten minutes of club football this season – more game time.

There can’t be much more Foden can do to get a game for City – as well as scoring regularly for England, he seems to impress every time he gets on the pitch for his club.

And he must look across at his fellow Young Lions with a tinge of envy, too.

While he remains rooted to the bench at the Etihad Stadium, the likes of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham are now getting regular game time at Chelsea, are making an impact at Premier League level and have graduated to the senior England team.

According to West Ham and Everton legend Tony Cottee, the youngster is ‘not learning anything on the bench’ and could stunt his career by waiting any longer for his chance at City.

Speaking on Wednesday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Cottee said: “I’m really frustrated with Phil Foden.

“He is an unbelievable, outstanding young footballer but he’s got to play!

“If you’re sitting on the bench, yes people will say he’s training with the first team, but it’s not the same as playing.

“You have to get the game time and experience. He needs to play. This is a big season for him, and he’s not playing!

Phil Foden has been widely dubbed the future of Manchester City and England’s midfield – but he has played just 10 minutes of club football this season

“If I was Phil Foden, I would be banging on that door every single week and saying, ‘I want to play and if you’re not going to play me I’m going out on loan’.

“The young lad [Bobby Duncan] has just left Liverpool because he wants to play football – these young kids have to play, they’ve got to learn they’re trade and Foden is not learning it on the bench.

“He’s 19 now and your career goes so quickly. You need to be in the first team and you’ve got to be playing.

“I understand it’s a great team and who does he replace, I understand that, but he’s such a wonderful talent

“I think Foden has a place in that England team. We talk about the balance of that midfield and needing a creative player and Foden is that. He’s an outstanding talent and we need him in that England team.

“But unless he’s playing, which he’s not, he’s not going to get in it.”

Jadon Sancho: Manchester United held talks over summer transfer for England star, confirms Borussia Dortmund chief

11 Sep

Manchester United held talks with Borussia Dortmund over a possible transfer for England ace Jadon Sancho in MARCH.

The Premier League giants were the ‘super club’ Dortmund chiefs had previously revealed they met with to discuss a possible transfer for the 19-year-old winger.

Jadon Sancho has three goals and four assists in five games for Borussia Dortmund so far this season

The revelation was confirmed by sporting director Michael Zorc during the Inside Borussia Dortmund documentary, the latest edition of Amazon’s ‘All of Nothing’ series which first followed Manchester City.

Sancho, who scored his first two goals for England against Kosovo on Tuesday night, has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League.

His sensational emergence and glittering performances in Germany have alerted the likes of Man United and his former club Man City, who reportedly have a buy-back option for the winger.

In the show, Zorc confirms a meeting took place with United representatives over a possible deal for Sancho, but also insisted he was confident the 19-year-old would stay.

Speaking in a meeting with fellow Dortmund chiefs Matthias Sammer, Sebastian Kehl and chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke, he says: “A hot topic right now is Sancho and Manchester United, both his discussions with the club and mine with the consultants.

“A meeting did take place. Manchester United invited the consultant.

“But according to what I know, the consultant told the club that no matter how much money they offer, we won’t let him go this summer.

“But the player also has no intention of taking that step this summer.”

Sancho reportedly remains one of Manchester United’s top transfer targets and there are rumours they could launch a £100m bid to land him in January.

The Reds Devils were also given hope a deal could be done, with the youngster recently refusing to rule out a possible return to the Premier League, admitting he ‘wouldn’t mind’ moving back to England.

But recent reports from Germany have also claimed the winger has already agreed a lucrative new contract to commit his future to Dortmund which would double his wages to around £10m-per-year.

There’s no wonder clubs are lining up for the England sensation.

No player in Europe’s top five leagues has produced more assists in league football than Sancho since the start of last season – 17.

That total includes four in five appearances for Dortmund this term, as well as three goals.

Paul Pogba: Sergio Ramos says ‘the door is open’ for Manchester United star to join Real Madrid

10 Sep

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been told ‘the door is open’ for him to join Real Madrid – by Los Blancos and Spain captain Sergio Ramos.

Pogba was strongly linked with moves to Real and former club Juventus over the summer, but the French star failed in his attempts to leave Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old declared at the start of the window he wanted to leave United for ‘a new challenge’, while his agent Mino Raiola and his brother talked up possible moves to Italy and Spain.

And while Red Devils chiefs may have won this round, the Pogba saga is far from over and the rumours are widely expected to start again when the transfer window reopens in January.

And Ramos says ‘great player’ Pogba will always be welcome at the Bernabeu.

Speaking to the Daily Express at the premiere of his new Amazon Prime series, Ramos said of the United midfielder: “I think Real Madrid always has the door open for good players such as him.

“For me, Pogba is one of the great players.

“He is different and he has shown his value at Juventus and now Manchester United.

“I think he brings balance to a team. He has a great offensive influence and he has this amazing physique.”

Sergio Ramos says a player of Paul Pogba’s talent will always be welcome at Real Madrid

The centre-back’s new documentary show is titled ‘El Corazon de Sergio Ramos’, which translates as ‘The Heart of Sergio Ramos’.

It follows the Real Madrid and Spain captain’s movements throughout the 2018/19 season, which was ultimately a failed campaign for Los Blancos as they finished 19 points off LaLiga champions Barcelona, were dumped out of the Champions League by Ajax and were also beaten by fierce rivals Barca in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Liverpool news: Nabil Fekir hits back at ‘false’ claims he failed medical ahead of proposed Anfield transfer

10 Sep

Former Liverpool target Nabil Fekir has strongly denied claims that his proposed move to Anfield last summer fell through due to a failed medical.

The Reds were on the brink of signing the Frenchman from Lyon for around £53million in the 2018 summer transfer window, with Fekir even recording an interview with LFC TV, only for the club to pull the plug on the deal at the eleventh hour.

It was claimed the Premier League giants were concerned as the 26-year-old’s medical brought to light a problem with his knee, after Fekir suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament during the 2015/16 campaign.

But Fekir insists there is nothing wrong with his knee and has no clue why his Merseyside move didn’t happen.

The forward ended up remaining at Lyon for the season, managing 12 goals and nine assists, before signing for Real Betis this summer for a surprise £22m fee – just 12 months after almost becoming a £50m-plus player for Liverpool.

He has shown no signs of his apparent injury in Spain, either, scoring two goals in three appearances for his new club so far this season.

And in an interview with L’Equipe, Fekir has now hit back at the ‘lies’ over his failed Liverpool switch and says the Reds used his previous knee injury as ‘an excuse’ not to sign him.

“Lots of lies were told and they affected me,” said Fekir

“Especially those told about my family. It hurt them and me. Especially when you know that’s what being told is false.

“What was said is not the truth. My knee is good – I had a quick medical check at Clairefontaine [France’s national training base] and my knee wasn’t even mentioned. If my knee had been in such a bad state, would [Lyon chairman Jean-Michel] Aulas have made [a huge offer to keep me]?

Fekir has started strongly for Real Betis with two goals in three games for the Spanish club – including one against Barcelona

“But the worst thing is the idea that people could suggest that it’s because of my family that the transfer didn’t happen. It’s a lie. But you have to live with it.

“You want the truth? Even I don’t know – I promise you! I did my medical and then [Liverpool] decided not to sign me. At some point they wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee – but an excuse needed to be found.

“The medical tests that I did at Clairefontaine were very clear – my knee is perfectly fine and I feel fine. There are no issues at all with my knee.”

Manchester City chasing Benfica starlet Florentino Luis, who has €120million release clause

9 Sep

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Benfica starlet Florentino Luis.

The midfielder enjoyed a successful 2018/19 breakthrough season with the Portuguese club, playing 14 times as they beat rivals Porto to the Primeira Liga title.

Despite forking out £62million on holding midfielder Rodri in the summer, City chiefs still want more competition for places in their star-studded squad.

Rodri has had a solid start to his City career, keeping club stalwart Fernandinho on the bench.

However, Fernandinho might be needed in defence after Aymeric Laporte will be sidelined with a knee injury until the new year.

Portuguese outlet Record claim City boss Pep Guardiola has sent scouts to watch Luis in action this season.

The 20-year-old recently signed a long-term contract with Benfica, which included a €120million (£107million) release clause.

Benfica have a strong reputation when it comes to selling their young stars for big money.

Portugal’s wonderkid Joao Felix joined Atletico Madrid in a £113million deal in July after featuring for just one season in Benfica’s first-team.
