Fulham are lining up a £26million bid for Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose as an alternative to Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Craven Cottage manager Slavisa Jokanovic wanted Mitrovic to sign permanently, having had him on loan from Newcastle last season and helping the club get promoted to the Premier League but a deal is yet to be sorted.
Fulham will now wait to see if their offer has been accepted before pressing ahead with a deal, according to SunSport.
Jose has emerged as a player equally capable of providing firepower to the front line following three successful seasons in La Liga.
He scored 20 goals in all competitions last season and was called into Brazil’s squad for the March friendlies against Russia and Germany.
“I was surprised to be in the last squad before the World Cup, but it happened to me. People can say what they want, but many do not follow my games,” he said at the time.
“In 31 games, I have 18 goals in the season, a very good average for a centre-forward who does not play for one of the big teams in Europe.
“People have to follow up more, they are looking only for what I did or did not do five years ago.”
Everton were tracking Jose last summer, but added Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney to their attack instead.
