Manchester United news: Eric Bailly left out of Tottenham defeat due to ‘technical decision’

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly’s absence from their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur was due to a ‘technical decision’, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils’ woefully inept defence were eventually overpowered by Spurs at Old Trafford, handing manager Jose Mourinho his biggest ever home defeat.

Manchester United star Eric Bailly looks dejected during the 3-2 defeat to Brighton.

He dropped Bailly entirely from his matchday squad after a poor performance against Brighton and Hove Albion saw Man United fall to a 3-2 defeat the Amex Stadium.

Some supporters were left confused by the move and it seems Bailly’s removal from the squad was nothing to do with an injury.

But, in his absence, Mourinho’s patched up backline, which saw midfielder Ander Herrera act as a centre-back in a back-three, along with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones was punished by a clinical Tottenham team.

With Jones appearing to suffer a second half injury, the Ivorian could get an immediate return to the team. Especially with Victor Lindelof, Jones’ replacement against Spurs, also looking shaky.
