Ruben Neves: Manchester United and Manchester City to go head-to-head for Wolves midfielder

29 Aug

Manchester United will battle it out with rivals Manchester City for highly rated Wolves star Ruben Neves, according to reports.

It emerged City boss Pep Guardiola was keen on signing the midfielder this month, who has lit up Molineux since his arrival from Porto a year ago.

Neves signed a five-year contract with Wolves in the summer

And Neves’ good form has continued into the Premier League with a lovely free-kick goal against Everton on the opening day.

However, Goal claims the Red Devils could be willing to table a rival bid for the £60million-rated Neves.

City will be anxious to land a long-term replacement for 33-year-old Fernandinho after losing out on Jorginho, who joined Chelsea this summer.

The Premier League champions reportedly made a late approach for Neves, however, Wolves and his agent Jorge Mendes refused to do business, promising the fans he would not be sold.

Mourinho and Guardiola are both very keen on the Portuguese midfielder

City sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, met with Mendes at Wolves’ season opener against Everton and was in attendance when the Blues drew 1-1 at Molineux on Saturday.

Begiristain and Mendes have a good relationship as the super-agent also has Nicolas Otamendi, Bernardo Silva and Ederson as clients.

However, United boss Jose Mourinho is also a client of Mendes which adds another twist to the tale on where Neves could end up.
