Arsenal are interested in signing Porto captain Hector Herrera, according to reports.

Herrera, the midfielder, has entered the final year of his contract at the Estadio do Dragao and has earned admiring glances from a host of Europe’s biggest teams.

Porto captain Herrera feels his time with the Dragons has come to an end

talkSPORT told you earlier this month that Tottenham will step up their chase for the 28-year-old when the transfer window opens in January, while Roma are also known to be tracking Herrera.

However, the latest reports say Spurs are facing rival interest in Herrera – from their fiercest rivals.

Correio da Manha claim Herrera is now ‘coveted by Arsenal’, with La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona also entering the race for the Mexico international.

It is stated that Porto have already rejected several offers made for Herrera, but the player is aware of the interest in him and wants to leave. Porto have attempted to tie him down to a new contract, but Herrera is said to have rejected an extension on three separate occasions.

Herrera has won 70 caps for Mexico

Herrera has made exactly 200 appearances for Porto since moving to the club from Pachuca in his homeland five years ago. He was named Dragons captain during the 2015/16 season.
